Honest question, what is this for?

ben2dropIf drop: single box which contains a digital to analog converter with internal amp that can drive 250ohm maybe more headphones. Recommended not to use with less than 80 ohm headphones but 80ohm is fine. Install usb drivers (see previous discussion posts for more on that) Connect usb from comp to box, power from wall to box, then headphone jack to box & install driver.
If Product: DAC/AMP commonly used by the audio community primarily with headphones though not limited to headphones. The expectation is that by using an external digital to analog converter your digital files (mp3 etc, 1 or 0, high or low Voltage) will be converted to a more ideal analog signal(low, high and everything in between) as recorded in the studio without distortion (if your using a solid state dac like this one, tube amps give distortion but engineered to give a certain type). The AMP, or amplifier takes the analog signal from the digital to analog converter chip and ups the power (P = current x voltage) in a way that does not distort the waveform of the original signal. Amps are used by the community to drive higher impedance headphones or to separate possible power fluctuation in a computer (common audio source) from that of the power feeding the sound waveform.
If music was seeing a bench press bar moving then impedance would be the amount of weight on the bar. The more impedance, the stronger the weightlifter needed (amp) and the smaller the vibrational movement of the bar due to people walking around in the room (power fluctuation & electromagnetic waves).
