greatexDifferent strokes for different folks... For me, I've owned many sound blaster sound cards and USB interfaces over the years; yet for the past few years I've switched to using Fio DACs with Bravo V2 amp to now a Rega Ear amp. I've found dedicated amps tend to power my hungry Fostex planars and Beyerdynamics better at least to me. I've given up with Creative's unnatural virtual surround sound for open back headphones with better imaging and never looked back. If you want the "7.1 surround sound" and other gamer features, go for the sound blaster. If you want a generally good sounding DAC amp combo without the gimmick, buy the m6.

greatexI've just noticed, the sound blaster has a 3.5mm jack. If the cable on your hd-6xx is the same as the hd600 and 650, you'll need to use the included 1/4" to 3.5mm step down adapter which will add a good amount of bulk. If Sennheiser included a 3.5mm cable like the hd598se, it should plug in without adapters.

greatexNever used the G5, but I'd go for this. I own the Sound Blaster X7 and love it, with several open-back cans but for the money between this and the G5, I'd go for this guy. Virtual surround etc is a farce anyway, I'd just look for the better amp/dac as a whole not thinking about the special software enhancements.

stevew111Maybe I missed your point but my HD 600s have the 1/8 proprietary converter from its quarter-inch cable

Bubba111Bubba, you're right. I don't have any issues with the Sennheiser 1/4" plug. My issues lie with the small 3.5mm jack that's on the soundblaster. Many headphone cables come standard with the 1/8" plug on the cord and include a 1/4" adapter. Sennheiser typically uses a 1/4" plug on the cable, and to connect to portable devices you need to use the 1/4" to 1/8" step down adapter. For me, I find it somewhat unsettling to have the bulk adapter plugged into such a small jack. Any off axis tug will break the connector on the device. Then again, for home use, many desktop amps use 1/4" jacks instead of the 3.5mm jacks. To me 3.5mm ie 1/8" plug/jacks are practical on mobile devices like phones, laptops, ipods, etc; but when it comes to connecting to your desktop PC, it's too easy to break if you slip up. I've killed the 3.5mm front panel jack on my PC's case once by standing up and forgetting my Grado SR80i were around my neck. Fortunately the Grado survived, with a bit of a bend to the plug. Since then, I've almost exclusively used 1/4" plug/jacks with dedicated amps with the exception of the Fiio Q1, which is my office amp.
