Just gonna leave this here: "Even 8-bit, four-times-oversampled PCM with noise shaping, proper dithering and half data rate of DSD has better noise floor and frequency response"

JoomyYeah this just sounds like over-designed crap, at least for playback. Seriously, 32-bit, 768khz? No different then 16-24bit/44.1-48khz. Unless they are trying to cover up crap implementation by utilizing ridiculous frequencies. And the amp power is wacky all over the place.

GarzhadAgreed. Well I agree about the ridiculous over-sampling. Then again I wonder how much adding DSD and a 32-bit/768khz DAC adds to the price. Probably like 10 bucks. So while I would rather pay $10 less and not have it, but as long as it's not actively detracting from the quality of the sound I guess I can live with it.
But what do you mean about the amp power being wacky?

JoomyMost amps seem to have a fairly consistent output power drop as impedance increases. Like the O2 goes from 613/355/88 @ 33/150/600 ohms respectively. This one goes from 138/110/589/30 @ 32/64/150/300; whats with the weird, massive power output spike @ 150ohm? Unless thats a typo. There was an article from the NwAvGuy too about how some shady manufacturers utilize crap filters/implementation that favors higher frequencies while making 44.1/48 sound worse as a result.

GarzhadI see what you mean. It does seem like a typo. Maybe it's meant to be 58 or 89.
Yes, I can ignore these stupid HD, hi res, DSD additions only as long as they don't increase cost (much) and don't decrease quality in other areas. The consumer demand for these technologies is so bizarre it's verging on mass hysteria.

JoomyIt's part of the misconception that more/high numbers = better. Even if they dont matter. People see higher numbers/price, instinctively think that = better. This... isnt necessarily the case. In many cases, it can be the exact opposite. And there are diminishing returns in EVERYTHING

GarzhadYou have know clue how it sounds but it's bad because it has to many features, smh. The logic of some of you guys is amazing. Also SMSL isn't covering anything up. The specs are standard for the XMOS chipset in the M7. And seriously 32-bit 768khz equals DXD support. A little Google goes a long way.
I have the M7 and it sounds great and works perfectly with my ArchLinux box. DSD playback works without issue. It's a great lol dac amp for the money.

MegatheronIt's still a weak amp thats overpriced for its specs, and DSD is just marketing crap. It also has excessively high output impedance which will distort sound on the only low impedance phones that it could actually drive properly. If you're just using it for speakers it probably wont matter much but for headphones it leaves much to be desired. Get better results with a schiit stack for around the same price.
