bought it, haven't used it yet... it may be a stupid question to ask now but how does it override the analog conversion within the streaming device? The computer or the phone or whatever. I'm not sure I understand how DAC works.

marsbsrsThe DAC (Digital-Analog Converter) itself doesn't override anything. It takes the digital signal being sent from the device and converts it into an analog signal suitable for sending over its RCA outputs to another analog device downstream, eg. an amplifier or powered speakers with RCA inputs. Analog conversion on the device (PC, phone) only takes place when it is using its internal DAC to output to its own analog output jack(s) eg. headphone jack or speaker jacks. On a PC you can specify which playback (audio) device to use, and by choosing the one associated with the external DAC, that effectively switches output from the analog jack to a digital output which is either a USB, coax, or optical port i.e. it "overrides" analog conversion. If the only playback device connected is the DAC, then it should automatically be detected and selected by the PC. I hope this helps.

PeterSFThanks neighbor. That really helps my understanding - - - I like to stream soundcloud and pandora off an old android phone > is there a way to change out put on android so the DAC can work? I assume I can do it from the miniUSB. Marsbars on Nob Hill
