Seriously, guys, I have been participating in the discussion over at HiFiDIY for the better part of a year, and there is a lot of discussion as to how the implementation of the ESS 9038 in an affordable DAC product might look and sound. Does anyone have an idea what was used and what wasn't. How does this implementation sound? That is, do the more modest implementations sound significantly better than the ESS 9018 or ESS 9028? Does it keep the Sabre "family sound"?

HollowStateM8A specs fine. Sabre is a reference sound if the specs support it. So what does this mean? Your hearing the music not the DAC. This is what a DAC is supposed to do. Want variations in tonality then focus on your cans or amp but pick up a reference DAC regardless of make, model that shows clean graphs.
