Candy apple red. I'd rather go for a topping d10 with the black box and red display.
Isn't it better to get Topping D10 at similar price. With d10 you can swap out the opamp for something like burson V5i. How does this perform against d10

I had D10 and I returned it(I bought it on Amazon) DSD would work normal and then after few days it wouldn't play (loud static noise instead of music) then I needed to reinstall drivers - DSD would start to work again and then after some time it would brake down again. Tried everything, firmware update, different usb port, different PC. Drivers are just a piece of junk.
kombajn
Fortunately i didn't have the same problem. The drivers for most of these are pretty much same the driver that they re-skinned. The one on left side is for Topping and the one on right side is for SMSL

Can you play an SACD THROUGH it??? I have a lower priced Peachtree DAC and it will not play SACD's thru it. I have to disconnect it to play an SACD. Thanks!!
Mine just showed up... remote doesn't work at all. Device works fine though. Or maybe it's the receiver on the device. I don't know. But audio works, remote doesn't. I bought it for the remote. Otherwise, could have gone Modi 3.
Squee
I assume you figured this out by now. But for others whose remote does not work. Their are 3 silly buttons labeled "A" "B" "C" on the remote. You must hit "C" the first time to make the remote work (the others change the codes to control other unnamed devices). If at some point you hit A or B by mistake...you must hit C again to make it work.
Mine has a distinct buzzing after 80% volume ... Moving on to something cleaner

I got a topping D50 instead and have 0 issues.... Probably the most transparent DAC i've heard
nidus123
My Nad D1050 uses similar internals to the topping. I agree it is great.
I am having issues with the drivers on this dac i changed from the sanskrit 6th and had no probs can anyone please help thanks

thanks for your help also wish me luck with my new dac i just ordered the smsl m9
Good GOD, these are clownishly hideous! :D. I'd actually consider them if they don't look so frighteningly toyish!
trellus
These would look cute in an Ikea Kallax js
Will this provide USB power to the headphones?
nsim
no. it doesnt have headphone jack. so its solely dac that requires 2 usb
this is furniture level dac, will trash your desktop
scottlu
What the Hell does that even mean??
wonder if this would beat a modi...we know its subjective but one can opine
I actually really like the look of this DAC. I wonder how it measures? Hopefully Audio Science Review reviews it.
Epic_Taco_Dude
Amir said he joined the drop, so just a matter of time.
Epic_Taco_Dude
Amir at A.S.R. just posted his review. It works great on SPDIF, and also on USB but ONLY if you provide additional power through the 2nd USB power jack. So.. hook up both with a decent 5v USB adapter.
I wonder if the Harmony Smart Hub remote will work on this - i have a pair of powered monitors for the living room tv but connected via optical so volume only works via knob on the dac
Serious question I have the Teac 101 for my home office set up, could I use this DAC w/ my TV set up to improve sound quality into my powered Klipsch 15’s? TV to DAC, DAC to speakers? Thoughts & comments please.

Yes optical out from TV to powered Klipsch.
OhioHead
Do your Klipsch have and RCA (red /white) input?
YAMWT
Errr, not from head-fi. One of the most biased forum.

Not stolen.

So useless and pro-yankee advice...please develop facts instead of hating for no reason...
if I was on the market for DAC I'd try it. Specs are suspiciously close to Schiit Modi3, which measured excellently. Price is lower by 25+10=35. But, do u want to be a beta tester? Where are the measurements? The big don't for me is lack of mechanical input selector. Cheap remotes tend to die fast. Am I wrong? Is there a way to choose input w/o remote?
bravomail
Looking at the product link below, it shows the power button doubling as an input selector.
oboecycle
Yes that is correct.
Is this the cheapest DSD-enabled DAC that comes with a remote? Amazing how prices keep falling. I paid $150 for my SMSL M8 (which lacks a remote, but is wall-powered) two years ago...
@FuckHead-Fi: Really? Try looking in the mirror!
DrummingMan
Wowzer epic bants friends, upboated
The ugliest thing I have ever seen.
FuckHead-Fi
Your reputation here is amazing.
How would this compare to the paried separates smsl m8 and power supply?
This looks so flipping cool and the hardware and sonic specs aren't anything to scoff at either. I'm tempted.
rdodev
Same. I'm still thinking of the SU-8 but I also ordered the balanced SDAC so that's just me being impatient. However at this pricepoint, this unit could very well fill that gap cheaply for an unbalanced DAC.
Can someone help me as I’m a little bit new to this stuff but I want to drive some pc speakers (edifier Luna) as well as headphones (m50x and ath900x) (might upgrade sometime to a higher ohm headphone). Would I need a dac or a amp combo. What is the best? I like this Dac here but it doesn’t have an amp? Thanks for helping my naivety.
Vizson
You should go for an amp/ dac combo like the smsl vmv v2....or aune x1
Vizson
get O2 amp for starters
MD: I wonder if our customers would like to see the display - a key feature - in its different orientations. MD: Nah.
