For those wanting the LPS... The LPS is a very convenient optional piece. I had the entire stack and blow out my LPS when we took a power hit. My amp and dac ran perfectly without it and only required me to press one extra button. The stack itself did not suffer from any sound degradation in any way shape or form without it. It took me a long time to replace it but I eventually did and to be honest, all it did for me was complete the stack, nothing more. If you are interested in this amp and dac I would say go for it. I purchased mine when it was still at its peak price and frankly am not disappointed by the purchase. I don't use the amp very often since I mostly run balanced now but it is still nice to have for my headphones are not balanced. I have never had an issue running anything I own on it an will occasionally use it for everything from my 1More, Aeon, and HD600 to my LCD2 closed when the mood strikes. If you are on a budget, then I would say pick this up because you are not going to do better at this price. You can always do what I did and set up an alert on ebay for when someone posts one. I finally got my replacement from there and it only cost me $30 with shipping. Sometimes you just get lucky. Hope this helps.

ethanchanThat is exactly what I ordered it for. To use with the Sennheiser GSX 1000 as you have in the picture above. This will give you the best of all worlds! Are you running the GSX phone out to the in of the SMSL amp and then headphone to the amp? Is that the best way to make up for the GSX 1000 lack of power but still enjoy the 7.1 etc. ?

epareraI hate to disappoint you but no, the way I am actually set up is HDMI out to GSX 1000 and fiber optic to the sanskrit pro. I did try it by going GSX to Sanskrit but found that I like the separate inputs better as they both bring excellent audio to the table individually and when I gamed on it I lost the 7.2 simulated sound on my headphones. I much prefer it the way I currently have it which is as I mentioned, pc to GSX, pc to Sansckrit, Sanskrit to Aune, Aune to LD MKII. In this configuration I get to use all of the toys available to me (800s, lcd 2 closed, 1More triple driver over ear, 598 SE, 6xx, ATH-M50x, Grado GS1000e and a couple of others that I only tend to use when listening to specific genres of music). with the addition of the X1S to X7S and LD MKII I rounded out what is to me the best listening depot I could have without going broke. I will say that I did buy some extra tubes for the MKii which I find to pair better with different headphones. I am new to the Tube game but so far I couldn't be any happier than I am with the sound I get from the DACs and Amps I have. Hope that helps and if you have any questions then just hit me up and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

ethanchanWow that is quite the setup! Thanks for the very detailed response. Well I will play with it and try different combinations with ATh M50X, Senn 58X, Senn 598se, and see what I like most then sell whatever I don't end up using. But I love the GSX 1000 for gaming and switching from phone to speaker amp etc. I use the four programmable presets all day between things.

epareraYeah, the GSX is crazy versatile and has great sound to boot. I love all kinds of music so I have everything from dynamic to planars, reference to enhanced and balanced to unbalanced, this way I can just kick back and use the headsets that give me the best sound regardless of genre or, if its music or movies. I will say this, if you are a fan of classical music, jazz quartets are cello music you will probably love the MKii with the sennheiser. It has that type of tubbyness that throws just enough dirt and grime on things to make them sound amazing. I am in absolute love with the depth that it throws into the sound, so much so that I have found myself going back to a lot of music I had abandoned years ago. long live sade!!!! lol

epareraThe only thing not in this pic is the Aune x1s (and some of the headphones not enough room for it on one pic lol) because it is on my wifes desk till her new dac comes in... lol For the most part this is all I use, the gsx 1000 is one setup, the sanskrit pro a second system whic feeds the sanskrit amp, then passive to the aune for my balanced output, then I go from the aune passive to the MKii for my tube sound. The HA400 on the right is multi out so when I am podcasting or streaming with other people in the room they can just connect their headphones and hear what is going on. I have a second mic but it is not in the pic because I am currently not using it and it does require me to change the rig up a little to accommodate the mixing board I have to use. I hope this helps with your setup.

ethanchanHoly cow it looks like Z Reviews desk! So my idea of the SMSL headphone amp being used to make up for the GSX 1000 to run say Senn 58Xx Louder would that be a good combo in your opinion? The other option is get a Magni 3 but my OCD of the Schitt being wider than the GSX 1000 and my Fosi Audio BT20A Would drive me nuts. What is your opinion?

epareraThanks, I am a custom extreme pc builder and to be honest, my rig is probably the worst one I have ever built.. lol. I didn't really put a lot of time into it. I kinda of threw it together as quickly as I could because my old pc took a power hit and crap the bed. I really have to sit down and clean up the entire build from cable management in the back to the hard tubing because a couple of them are not properly aligned. As for going from the GSX 1000 to another amp, I would avoid it personally. The GSX does not have a passive or preamp output and so what I have found is that when I ran it to the amp the audio was distorted and hard to balance out. Now as for the Magni, I don't own one but did use my friends Modi 2 for a few days because my gear was en-route after the move. It was a nice piece of gear but I can't give a real assessment because I didn't play with it enough or run it with different headphones and amps. At the time, the only one thing I had was my SMSL sAp 9 and takstar 82 pro. If it is up to par with other Shiit products I would say that it is probably a good addition to your gear but would recommend running it as a second audio setup the way I do with mine. All I had to do to set it up was install a program called VoiceMeeter Banana, it is basically a soundboard program that allows you to setup multiple tracks (input audio and microphones) and output them to a single source on your computer. That keeps windows from losing its mind every time you plug in another audio device.

As for the Fosi Audio BT20A , I haven't use it, I use the SMSL AD18 nice little unit but did require a line conditioner when using the audio jack due to humming in the line. I ran that to my Bose 161 Speaker System to augment my soundbar w/ sub. When the wife isn't home I can throw on some tunes or a movie and jam out.. lol. As for the aesthetics, well to be honest, it would send my OCD into overdrive as well. The only reason I can deal with it with the MKii is because while they are not the same width, it does have a nice symmetry to it as long as I don't look at the length lol. If you are looking to add to your system, I would recommend the sanskrit pro since it is less than $100 on drop right now and you can add any amp to it that you want. While I have the whole panda stack the only part of it I even use anymore is the DAC. I hardly ever use the amp and the LPS is just a nice little whole system on/off switch. I don't know if you have tried balanced audio yet but will say that if you have not, you really should try it. especially with the 6XX, the only thing my tube amp is missing is balanced out which for now I will do without but I know that I will in the end have to buy one with it. I absolutely love balanced audio and can only imagine how good the 6xx is going to sound balanced and tubed. I am just going to guess that it is probably the best sound I could get considering that individually XLR balanced and tube over TRS sounds so amazing when compared to a straight TRS without the tube sound. I would suggest talking to some of your friends and try the sound on different outputs. You will be amazed at how the sound gets so much richer on each of them. Ok, that is enough out of me, Sorry I couldn't be more help with the gear your asking about. P.S. You don't need a high end computer to run VM Banana.
