DON'T BY SMSL SU-8 from Massdrop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a WARNING for people who are looking to buy the SMSL SU-8 from Massdrop.
Based on my experience and frustration.
Massdrop does not provide any warranty for this product.
Even in my case 30 days return condition was not possible as delivery to New Zealand took 31 days.
I have contacted to Massdrop and was rejected for RMA.
In this case better to buy directly from manufacture dealer as they provide 12 months warranty and super-fast free international delivery with price 249$
I was a big fan of buying audio gears from Massdrop, but this unit let me down and rises concern for the future relation with Massdrop as the customer.
Bought on 01 September 2018, Delivered 02 October 2018 (30 Days) Details attached in photo.
First week I was running via USB cable and was very Happy.
But after 2 weeks decided to use Toslink and Coax inputs and have found, that my unit has some buzzing noise via toslink/ and coax input. When via USB the noise was still present, but less audible.
Noise can been described as high frequency (coil wining) buzzing noise with combination of some tapping sound every second (as second arrow on the wall clock), very noticeable when music on pause and headphone amplifier on max volume. This noise does not affected by SMSL SU8 volume change. It is constant and was amplified by Emotiva amplifier's volume knob.
My setup can be seen on my profile:
Comp >> SMS SU8>> rca>> Emotiva A100 BasX>> HD 6XX, 7XX etc.
From comp to SMS SU8 via USB (Less Buzz) , but via Toslink ( Noticable Buzz).
Also tried : Comp>>USB>> Topping 7>>Digital Coaxil>> SMS SU8>> RCA>> Emotiva A100BasX>> HD6XX (Buzzing )
For control: Comp>> Toslink>> Topping7>> RCA>> Emotiva A100BasX>> HD6XX (Silence and No Buzzing)
Buzzing comes when listening any music (youtube)>> pause>> volume max on amplifier.
As you can see from my posted setup pictures I have a lot of audio gears and have tried every single combination with swapping wires and amplifiers. The source of noise is SMSL SU8!
Technically when you pressed '' BUY'' button for this product, you start gambling what kind of unit you will get. And Massdrop will not take any responsibility for defective product, because slow delivery outside of US make impossible 30 days return condition happens.
So, after 3 months. I have defective unit which is impossible to listen with my new setup( via Toslink)
It was mentioned in specs TND 0.0003 , but in my case around 10% of total volume.
To summarize: Think twice before buy from Massdrop this unit.
For Massdrop I want to see legislation for selling product without warranty.

kimdeugThanks for the heads up. Same as the Topping DX7s. Wanted to purchase from Massdrop but had not warranty so bought it from china with 1 Year Warranty and end up paying the same.... Now using it as I type with a LOXJIE P20 also in balanced mode. Fantastic. Not everything is worth to purchase from Massdrop...

They will cancel your order before the shipment.
After 8 months I have finally manged to send it back for repairing to SMSL China.

xkuzaThanks for mentioned it. Any way Drop refused to do RMA. Have contacted directly to SMSL and they did unit replacement. All issues are gone. I took me around 1 year. Not a bad DAC. But now I am using Topping DX7 more as it has coax output, which after goes to 7 output coax splitter, and after to all my gears. Regards, Kim

Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?
I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones. Looking for a gaming/content audio setup
Hello! I'm looking for recommendations on audio setups. I'd be planning on using it mostly for gaming. Preferably I'd like a pair of large closed back headphones since I have a big head and jaw. I'd also like to hear myself through my mic with mic monitoring. As far as budget goes, I don't really have one. But under 600$ would be nice. I can go higher if needed. The audio setup would be connected to a high performance PC. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

$10 Drop Coupon Email not sent?
Trying to buy some gear off Drop for the first time. I was told I would receive an email with a welcome to drop $10 off promo. I never received that email. Drop was able to send me emails for my login token and email for Password update. But for some reason the $10 off coupon was never sent to me.

Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.
