I have one, pretty nice little unit. Don't know what the stock tube is, but it sounds quite nice. Lots of I/O options. I especially like that there's a DAC out that bypasses the tube and a pre out that is buffered by the tube.
Unlike some other combo units, when you turn this off the DAC powers off. That was fine with Windows, but Volumio on my RPi didn't like that so much, and I'm not about to leave a tube on all the time.
I'll also note that while the power output noted in the specs seems awfully low, it can drive my HE400, 4XX and TH-X00 PH easily. I have not tried my T-X0 with it, but I don't foresee any issues there, nor do I have any high impedance cans to try with it.
ryanaehI'm looking for a linear power supply for mine to sit on when it gets here and can't find the physical dimensions anywhere, do you mind measuring the length and width of your unit? Also, from the fuzzy images I can find it appears the included power supply outputs 24V@4.5A(108W) which seems shockingly high, is this correct? The specs state 11.6W consumption, do you (or anyone who may read this) know if a 12-15W linear (24v@0.5-0.62A) would actually be enough?
horseman612The label on the power supply is 24v @ 4.5amps. Mine is at work right now, so measurements will have to wait until Tuesday, but I can get them for you. I have a feeling the unit does not need anywhere near the power the supply is rated for. I have it running just fine at work on the 24v/3a supply I got for my Bravo V2, and that is likely overkill.
ryanaehOK thanks, looking around there doesn't seem to be more than a $15 price difference between the decently-reviewed Chinese 15 and 25W LPSs so I'll probably go with the latter - that's twice the stated consumption, probably no reason to go higher power or higher end than that here, right?
Also, in that range I see lots of units with one big filter cap and a few with a bank of 6-8 smaller ones - I'm thinking the latter's likely to be a bit cleaner without restricting current in any relevant way here, would you think that's correct?
horseman612I would think that's right. It's not like it's a super high-draw device, so the series of smaller caps should do just fine. It's not like there's going to be a subwoofer or something starving the unit for power every time it hits!
