This seems like a crazy good deal. Tempted...my current MSR cookset is a two person setup and a waste of space when I'm solo camping. Is there any real world truth to the notion a wider and shorter pot will boil faster?

trailbrewMy subjective views on the boiling time question: it depends on the stove:pot combination. I've seen many stoves used with the flames jetting out past the edges of the pot. That's wasted energy. Also, greater exposed surface area equates to faster heat transfer. If that surface area is exposed to a heat source - good, faster boil. If that surface area is exposed to a heat sink - energy loss.
As an aside, I was thinking about getting in on this because I like the idea of the silicone cup and lid. After watching a couple of videos online about the set though, I'm a bit concerned about the fit of the lid. It looks to me like it is a little finicky and has a lot of potential to slip inside during use. Anyone have experience with it? A few more grams of silicone to extend all the way over the top instead of just inside the rim...

trailbrewI spent an entire winter in the shed in the back yard a few years ago creating and testing alcohol stoves with everything I could find. During the testing, I would run average boil times with the water temperature regulated (kept it in the fridge at 36F) as well as the fuel. When using wider, shorter pots, I got average boil times that were anywhere from 10% to 25% faster than I did with taller, slimmer pots. OK, not exactly scientific, but when I'm carrying my alcohol stove, I only carry my short, wide tea (or was it "Ti") pot to save on fuel weight. If I'm carrying my tiny burner canister fueled stove, it doesn't seem to make that much difference, if any, as the size of the burner head is so small. Then again, there may be some other reason for it, so maybe it's all just in my mind.
