I thought BPA can be found on plastics and resins, not on glass. Never heard of BPA-free glass until now.
Ahh, good point. I mean, I remember it sticking out to me when I first read it, but when I went to reply to your comment I had only just read a reply to my comment that brought the fact it has a gasket to my attention, so I'd had a chance to forget that sentence. :D I wonder if they were just trying to jump on the BPA-free bandwagon that seems so popular with water containers these days, or maybe they decided that people who care enough about avoiding BPA are too dumb to realize glass doesn't contain it? Option 3 might be that the gasket and/or rubber grip sleeve do contain BPA and they want to skirt the issue by pointing out the material that most comes in contact with the contents is free of it.

TAsUI think it's similar to gluten free potato chips (potatoes, salt, oil), or gluten free spring water. If you're scared of or allergic to gluten, those things definitely don't contain gluten. Never have, never will. And a lot of companies selling those types of things will advertise it to the world like people are idiots (they may be right in some cases). I bought a pocket knife the other day. I'm not sure, but I think that was gluten free, too. Think of all the additional sales they'd bring in if they'd only advertised the fact that it was gluten free. Cynicism aside, it's a borosilicate glass bottle with a silicone sleeve. It seems like a foolproof concept. The one thing I'd be worried about, however, is how the lid is constructed. Anything like a plastic lid glued into a wood outer cap has potential to be problematic. Especially when there's torque involved. If it's not done right, the whole lid assembly will separate after some use. I'm guessing that's how the lid is constructed as it makes the most sense when there's wood involved. Another thing I question, too, is how well this will fit onto the top rack of some dishwashers. For example, I have a Bosch dishwasher that has a very shallow flatware and utensil rack at the very, very top. I can't fit my Kleen Kanteens onto the top dish rack that sits right underneath that as there's not enough vertical clearance for the bottles to stand upright (luckily, my Kleen Kanteens are stainless steel, so are also bottom rack dishwasher safe, where they fit fine). So while this may be top rack dishwasher safe, it might not even fit the top dish rack of your dishwasher. So it's a hand wash item only in those cases. That's a deal breaker for me, as I use my water bottles every day, and I rarely have time to hand wash things every day. Not a bad looking bottle, though, and if the lid is sound, it seems like a basic, sound concept, but one that may not suit everyone's lifestyle.

Are the lids corked, or do they screw on? There isn't a single image with the lid off, so there is no way to know. TBH, I can't imagine a wooden lid (bamboo or otherwise) would hold up after a few cycles of dishwashings and screwing the lid down tightly enough to be sure it doesn't leak without the wood splitting.

TipsyMacScotchslurpenThey advise you not to dishwash the cap. It has rubber on the inside so you can definitely tighten without the wood splitting. It is a screw cap.

TipsyMacScotchslurpenI could be wrong, but I suspect it's a standard plastic screw on cap that glued into an appropriately sized milled out hole in a wood outer cap. That makes the most sense to me.

The picture of the "Emerald" looks so derpy and unrelated ... so the Emerald has a different color cap and different style of rubber around the glass ?
