I will never let a friend buy a Smart TV, ESPECIALLY a Sony, without protesting. My current Sony TV has been unsatisfactory and a hassle.
The 55" 1080p screen works splendidly. But it's got smart features that suck, or that prevent it from functioning normally, ever.
The first feature that sucks is that your TV now advertises to you in your home. Fuck that.
As for the dysfunctions: -sometimes it won't turn on, and has to be unplugged and plugged back in. I assume this is because it's an Android device and merely turning it "off" is more of a hibernation/lock mode, which must be buggy. -significant delay on adjusting volume, sometimes the displayed number/bar freezes but the volume keeps rising. Sometimes it just doesn't work. -intermittently it won't find the Wi-Fi, and must be manually reset. -Although sometimes, it finds the Wi-Fi normally, and just select apps (like Netflix) won't access the internet. "Something happened." Resetting the app or the tv fixes this temporarily.
It started under warranty, so my wife called and they had the audacity to tell her it was normal, and to replace the remote batteries. WHAT!? When I called and was more persistent, they wouldn't replace my tv, instead they sent it in for "repairs". It came back doing all the same things within two weeks, which leads me to believe this actually IS normal for Sony smart TVs.
We will be resubmitting our warrant request, now out of warranty, and I'm not hopeful.
But the thing that outrages me the most is that it worked FINE before they started trying to push patches to the TV. They broke my perfectly fine TV and now they won't fix it.
Never get a smart tv. A good screen (dumb tv) will last you over a decade, but a smart TV, especially a Sony in my opinion, won't last.
rpm604Good luck buying a decent TV without smart features. You can forget anything top of the line. I imagine this TV is a few years old. Tech gets better. Plain and simple

rpm604Wow never considered those things but it makes sense. What can you do though? Any high end tv now is powered by its OS. No more dumb monitors (which I prefer). 😤

rpm604So something happened to you once and that means nobody should ever buy that thing again or anything like it. Even though everything you can buy now is like that thing. Got it.
