You can pretty much assume all major brand camera items on massdrop are grey market. Most stores don't label items as "grey market." It's usually "International," "Imported," or "Asian." Those items are almost always exactly the same as the US version without the US warranty.
Lowest drop price is about 10% discount with massdrop's 1-year warranty (same as Sony's). Not sure how that works, but since they seem to be pretty good when an order goes wrong, warranty claims are probably pretty smooth. They probably just replace your defective unit with a new one as I don't see them sending them off to a repair facility. The only problem is if Massdrop somehow closes shop in the next year.
The original A7R is at a 17% discount right now, which is an indication of how much prices for these cameras will drop after a year and a half. Of course the used market will have them for slightly less, but those have no warranty.
Love the A7 series, but not in the market for this, if I was, I'd swoop this.

StreakInTheSkyWhat about service after the warranty year? Nikon refuses service on imports, not sure if Sony has adopted the same approach.

jabsAccording to this thread, Sony will do service at cost on grey market items. I think Nikon is the only company that refuses to repair grey market cameras. The other choice is finding a good camera repair shop. http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1336949

StreakInTheSkyHey look, somebody that's actually being logical!
This is a good price for this camera, assuming Massdrop does an adequate job with warranty claims. It's a brand new flagship from Sony, which means it will only very rarely be available for below MSRP. $300 off of Amazon's price is a good deal for this camera.

dqnielThey had new grey market from ebay $500 off not too long ago. Assuming you can get warranty for that, could be worth it.

lastzeroBe wary of ebay. I would never buy a new camera off of ebay that's not sold by a highly reputable seller based in the USA/whatever country you live in that explicitly says they offer a warranty in the posting. Also, I believe Sony cameras for the Chinese market don't have English menus, so be wary of that I wouldn't even buy a used camera unless they were a highly reputable seller. That said, I've gotten some very nice used gear off ebay, and only a couple DOA/damaged items. Never bought anything new because of the risks. Massdrop has very little risks as there customer service is actually fairly good and reasonable (unless you need it by a certain time).

StreakInTheSkyAs for bodies, I believe Sony only has two versions, so I learned from the Sony Building in Japan, Japanese and International. The Japanese only has Japanese and International has all languages, except Japanese, or at least my guess there. My a6000 has Chinese there.
As for buying lens, I've had no issues with any of the e mounts from Japan themselves. I do agree that there is a risk, While Massdrop has customer services, grey market items are still that. The Japanese people I've talked to for ebay seemed receptive so end of the day ymmv. That's my 2 cents.

StreakInTheSkyOnly Sony japanese version cameras don't have English menus. Others are all the same.
