Anyone have thoughts about this VS the RX100-IV? Obviously a different price point but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money. Clearly a much larger sensor in the RX100.... Any other thoughts? This still has the lens control ring and EVF etc.... Thanks!

sam.schloegelIf you Google hx90v there is a link for dpreview which has real world pictures posted. The pictures are kinda washed out. I think what you are getting in this package is a inexpensive, small, take anywhere camera with an incredible zoom. It's not even going to be in the same league as the RX100 in terms of sharpness or clarity but if you need that extra reach the 90V is hard to beat even though it's missing RAW. If you didn't need the reach (zoom) then I would spend the extra on the RX100. I had the IV for a couple of weeks before returning it (to get a A6300) and other than missing the zoom I wanted that camera was just insane with focus speed and image quality. Even today I look back at some of the pictures I took and say wow that was sharp. Since owning the A6300 I've been wanting a smaller pocket camera but will stick it out until the RX100VI comes out. Reviews for the 90V on the major sites are 4 and above so I think for the price and to be used as a simple point and shoot this is a pretty good deal.

Sorry, but 18 megapixels is too much for this size sensor. And anything over ISO 800 will look horrible. At concerts you wil have poor lighting and zooming in those circumstances will push you easily over ISO 1600. The result will be equivalent to a poor shot with a mobile phone. Been there, done it, didn't buy the camera. Outside under normal light etc, it's fine. But for +/- $150 more, you can get a A6000 which is so much superior. So yeah, if all you do is visit concerts in broad daylight, it'll be fine. But the combination of sensor + zoom make this a flawed camera and a point & shoot at best.

This is a point and shoot, and a good one. Between my wife and I, we have the HX90V, the RX100M5, an a7 and an a7Rii. Sort of drank the Sony koolaid, lol. She uses the HX90V more than I but she loves it. It's perfect for people whom want a little (a sh!tload) more than what an iPhone can offer. Great zoom and throw it in your jacket pocket portability. For me, it was a great choice as I refuse to try and f*ck around with a camera that doesn't have a viewfinder. Someone mentioned not liking it with glasses and I say, "Why would you?" It has a diopter adj. built right in so perfect for those of us with less than perfect vision. I don't know if this is a good price, but I can tell you it's a great little camera.

bbissetFor me, the diopter adjustment on my a6300 only goes so far haha. So if your vision is better than my -5.25 then it may adjust correctly.

sam.schloegel100 IV has better chip, V90 has longer optical lens. I have the V90-it does a very good job at taking pics. Not quite the clean resolution that you’d expect from the RX100 line.
