albillWent live this morning. They usually conclude after about four people have purchased them from my observation. Best you can do is hit request and buy one as soon as the drop goes live.

For the people who own this thing, does it also need a voltage converter? Is the charger rated to accept 120V? Or only the 220V found in Europe?

Hello All,
There seems to be some concern over a different camera on Amazon that is strictly in Japanese and I wanted to ensure everyone that the Sony HX60V we are offering is multilingual and specifically EU Spec.
The camera boots 100% in English and comes with English manuals.
Cheers!

All the Amazon reviews for this camera say the menus are locked in Japanese for the HX60V as it was only sold in Japan. Is this true? Can anyone verify?

bYtockWe are certain that the camera we are offering is multilingual and not strictly Japanese.

bYtockI think the complaints about the Japanese menus are just isolated to some random guy selling a japanese version of the camera on amazon. I received the camera and all menus are in English although the plug to charge the camera has the round European sockets which requires an adapter to charge :(

I cannot tell from this write up if: 1. It will support PlayMemories apps and 2. if I can download raw images not just jpeg's. Can anyone help with that?

This does not appear to be the V model with the built-in GPS. According to this post from a Sony support engineer, the non-V version was not sold in the US and does not support download of PlayMemories apps. Can Massdrop verify if this camera is the V version or if it truly does support PlayMemories as it says in the description? https://community.sony.com/t5/Cybershot-Cameras/Why-apps-are-not-available-for-camera-model-DSC-HX60/td-p/563433

toddfI just received this camera yesterday. This is in fact the HX-60V version of the camera with GPS and wifi. You are correct that it was not sold in the United States. The instruction manual is written in like 12 european languages and the charging cable comes with the european plug which is kind of annoying because now to charge up my new camera to use I have to go out and buy an adapter.

I am wanting a camera for doing music videos on a budget. Would this camera do good for me. All I'm wanting is 1080p and good overall quality and low light. Will this camera do it or is there a better camera for a similar price.

Austin3024Hi Austin,
There are many great reviews on this particular Sony model and the price is astoundingly cheap for what it retails in the marketplace. If you need to know more information on this product, please refer to this link:

Austin3024While I am not familiar with this exact camera, the low light capabilities are likely not that great due to the built in lens having its fastest aperture being 3.5 and 6.3 when zoomed in, combined with the fact it has a smaller sensor. But at this price range, I don't know of any cameras (bought new) that would excel in low light. You could definitely make this work if you kept the focal length towards the 4.3 (not zoomed in at all) and bought an inexpensive LED panel to add light when you need it (these can be found for about $30). If you're willing to buy a used camera, I would look around for a canon EOS M with the 22mm prime lens. This would do quite well in low light, and it can be found for around $250-300 if you look around online. The only down side is the wide-ish angle lens with no zoom, so you might be limited on what you could shoot. But this camera would allow you to buy and change lenses as you grow with your production. Sorry for the long and late response, but hopefully this helps.

I've been looking into getting the RX100. Does anyone know how this will compare?

elev8dswHi elev8dsw,
The RX100 is a good model but what are your preferences or priorities when it comes to owning a camera? For me a solid zoom is what I require and this is especially useful when I'm far away from the action yet still being able to capture it as though I was right there. I used to own a 20x zoom camera and I believe the Sony HX60 would far exceed my expectations with its 30x zoom capability. RX100 on the other hand, has a 3.6x zoom lens and this was an immediate turn off for me. I have backpacked to quite a few countries across continents and sometimes I get shy or feel embarrassed to whip out my camera in order to get a good close-up of the locals and this was something that propelled me to look for a camera with a formidable zoom function. These are my two cents.
