To be clear, this is more for the Sony Professional Camcorder line-up, i.e. PXW-FS7M2, than for any of the more standard E/EF mount Alpha line-up, i.e a6500 or a7III. For the price, you better know the reason why you want this, and if it's for just photography, look elsewhere.

The extra 5mm zoom over the 18-105 made all the difference in price?

The description is misleading. This is *not* a full frame (FE) lens. It’s an E mount, so it will attach to the a7 series, but the lens is automatically recognized as APS-C format and the field of view is cropped accordingly. The crop can be overridden, but severe vignetting will result. The effective range of this lens on a full frame model is 27-165mm. the description should be modified to reflect this.. anyone mounting this on an a7-class Sony and expecting an ultra wide 18mm image is going to be disappointed, especially for this price. The description reads " for full-frame E-mount" but the Sony material reads "Super 35/APS-C." While it can be used on full-frame Sony cameras (in crop mode), this is a great video lens for A6500 or A6400 APS-C cameras. This lens is big and heavy, so if not specifically looking for a video lens, but one for travel, street on A6000-series, the PZ-18-105mm also on Massdrop would be the better choice (and less expensive).
