Anyone have an opinion on this lens on an a6000? The internet seems impressed but the metrics look unimpressive.

I'm commenting because I've got the same body and the same question and hope someone comes through with an answer.
Will we see Sony 24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8 or any fast glass sometime?
I hate to be that guy complaining about drops, but I've been watching and waiting for non-kit lenses for my a6000, and I believe I've only seen one come across that was a bit too far out of my price range. I'd really love to see some other e-mount lenses for sale on MD.

My Sony is my secondary camera, so if I drop money on good glass it's going to be for my Canon. With that said, there are several e mount lenses under $400 retail that would be perfect to see on MD for a few bucks less.

I find that slightly confusing, the usage I mean. I would just adapt great Canon glass on top of a Sony if I had it. Although not optimal, you would be saving a lot of money. That being said small cheap lens aren't bad either.
Hi, im a little unsure about how shipping works and is listed here. I’m in the uk, and when i go to join the drop it says shipping is only a couple of dollars or so. Is this correct? I have seen many listings only ship to the us previously, is it the case that the listing specifically says when this is so? Thanks!
On a separate note, dx0mark, which i realise doesn’t get everything right, lists this as the best cheap zoom for Sony E under something like 700 dollars - i have an a6500 which is why this is a compelling listing for me. The video disparaging FF On apsc is pretty widely and extensively discredited throughout photography forums. I’m just not sure why so many negative remarks, except that it’s a kit, which for full frame owners is pretty dull, i can see, but for anyone else it’s a good price On a very highly rated lens for its price point.

Thank you! So for this listing, 2 dollars something shipping is the only fee on top of the $250 for me to get it to the UK?
Tyni
Yes,
But we do not pay UK customs fees or import duties.
Bought it imported for 219. Kinda completely over the top overpriced, come on
rafaelinux
Ebay and places mamy even have it for cheaper $100-$150 since this is the first lens you could get, but also the first you'd sell...

It is seriously way cheaper than this to get it new almost anywhere.
I ordered my A7II body without a lens. I planned on using adapted a-mount lenses. After reading reviews for this thing though, I quickly found out I had made a mistake. This is one of the better kit lenses ever made. While the variable aperture is nothing special it is extremely sharp.
Really tempted to get this, but the price isn't anything special. Can be found much cheaper grey market on ebay.

As someone who got this lens with the camera, I will voice a second opinion and say that this lens is subpar compared to other kit lenses. It is not sharp, and does not make good use of the very large sensors of the Sony A7 series. It's slow (ish) to focus, will often miss focus even though it takes its sweet time hunting, and shooting a scene with lots of detail (like a landscape) is just a big no-no as it can't separate finer details at a distance.

Isn't this the full frame kit lens?

I really appreciate seeing Sony glass on here, I'm really frustrated that it's not a focal length that I need or want (another one of).
I have this lens, not bad. You could buy mine haha
So how is this on a drop and not any of the other FF lens?
Considering this is the starter lens for the A7 series it's a pretty solid lens.
I still use mine occasionally. Small, lightweight and versatile with decent IQ.
Of all the FE mount lenses...this? I mean I like mine because it's sharp, but I don't need another. This drop is useless for 99% of a7 range owners.
Just a reminder to those that might be coming in with a crop sensor camera (like the a6000 that dropped a few months ago) and the ideology that they should buy full-frame lenses in preparation for the day they make the leap to a more expensive body... You probably won't be very happy with the results.
Lenses are generally tuned for the type of sensor they are expected to be paired with. A lens meant for full-frame sensors will very rarely produce tack sharp results on a crop sensor. Some lenses will do better than others, and I'm not sure if this might be one of them; but generally speaking, it rarely works out well if you try to mix and match, even though both types of lenses use the same mounting system.
CodyToombs
Tony Northrup proves this and also don't forget to account for the crop factor, making this a 42-105.
lastzero
Yes, crop factor is relevant too. I left it out since all lenses are measured in 35mm equivalent, even if they are intended for crop sensors. I didn't want to get too long-winded.
This is an odd drop. The people who purchased the A7 either got this lens or they didn't for good reason. The only reason I see anyone picking this up is they broke their original.
LowSkyOrbit
Especially since there's now a nifty fifty for 250$ that's probably light years above this in IQ.
darkdex52
As an owner of the 50mm, IQ yes, focusing speed no..
Will this fit my Sony Alpha?

Note that you will experience shorter focal length if you have crop sensor, 48-105mm equiv on apsc according to the description.

Thanks, I only had a tiny interest to begin with but so far the cons outweigh the pros...
if only this was the f/4 instead.
