I bought this lens for $150 on eBay brand new. I keep wanting to like it but it keeps disappointing. Landscapes and indoor photography is a big no. Using on A7rii. I would not purchase this lens again.
I have this lens and the tamron 28-70 f2.8 and the tamron outperforms the sony albeit a little more money but still cheaper than big brother G lens at 1299.00
Save your money and buy the tamron
VsmitBut a faster lens and better quality. You will have a much more versatile lens and better pictures. Glass investment can go between many bodies. I'd rather use a tamron on a A6000 then a Sony lens on a A6500 as I can make much better photos and always upgrade bodies later
tw000On a crop sensor, the equivalent field of view (relative to full frame) is 42mm-112mm. As it a kit lens, for the weight, it performs decently. However, I would never buy this lens standalone (unless from someone who bought it with body and looking to sell at steep discount). Would STRONGLY consider the Tamron (the upgrade in performance is worth more than the price difference at this advertised price imo). Getting a FF lens for a crop sensor does future proof yourself if you are foreseeably picking up a full frame body.
I hate to be that guy complaining about drops, but I've been watching and waiting for non-kit lenses for my a6000, and I believe I've only seen one come across that was a bit too far out of my price range. I'd really love to see some other e-mount lenses for sale on MD.
My Sony is my secondary camera, so if I drop money on good glass it's going to be for my Canon. With that said, there are several e mount lenses under $400 retail that would be perfect to see on MD for a few bucks less.
abstractdenialI find that slightly confusing, the usage I mean. I would just adapt great Canon glass on top of a Sony if I had it. Although not optimal, you would be saving a lot of money. That being said small cheap lens aren't bad either.
Hi, im a little unsure about how shipping works and is listed here. I’m in the uk, and when i go to join the drop it says shipping is only a couple of dollars or so. Is this correct? I have seen many listings only ship to the us previously, is it the case that the listing specifically says when this is so? Thanks!
On a separate note, dx0mark, which i realise doesn’t get everything right, lists this as the best cheap zoom for Sony E under something like 700 dollars - i have an a6500 which is why this is a compelling listing for me. The video disparaging FF On apsc is pretty widely and extensively discredited throughout photography forums. I’m just not sure why so many negative remarks, except that it’s a kit, which for full frame owners is pretty dull, i can see, but for anyone else it’s a good price On a very highly rated lens for its price point.
