The only thing I hated about this product was that my ears were touching the drivers.

KITTYWere they really? I was gonna say maybe the pads were somehow too flat or something but I've heard like 2 other people say that before in their reviews which makes me wonder if I'm the odd one out - my ears are definitely not small and when I tried these out I had plenty of space but maybe the pair was basically brand new.

VigrithMaybe I have big ears? I thought mine were pretty average sized lol. Only the tip of my ears were touching the drivers though.

KITTYLOL on the other hand maybe I just have smaller ears than I thought - I really don't know, as said others I've spoken with/reviews I've read had the same problem you did so it's probably just dependant on ear shape etc.
For example I dislike wearing most of Beyerdynamic's headphones (DT line, T90s, etc.) but TONS of people say they're the most comfortable headphones they've ever worn; the only one I can work with is the new Amiron because the cups are a bit bigger but with the other models my left ear lobe always gets squashed or crammed into the bottom of the pad.
Either way, if this is a common issue for people with the Z1R that kinda sucks because having to replace such nice stock pads with something deeper (like the ZMF sheepskins or something) and expensive would be a shame. Might be hard to do too, I honestly can't remember what kind of mechanism the Z1Rs use for attaching the pads.

VigrithTo my knowledge, the only pads that fit the Z1R are the stock pads. They have a Sony screw / lock mechanism and are bigger than most other pads.

gb21011971Probably true, I know Tyll brought up the pads/mechanism in his IF review but I can't check it right now. Hopefully most people have no issue with the drivers being too close to their ears then, that'd be unfortunate.

Vigrith"Earpads are leather over memory foam; ear openings are ear shaped and fairly large at 48mm x 62mm. The deep pads and angled driver allow generous room for the ears without touching the driver grill. The earpads have an unusual but very effective shape that allows them to mate nicely with the shape of your head/neck under your ear. They can be removed with a counter-clockwise twist, but I have not been able to find a part number for replacement pads."
