Hello.... wold like to know whether this or other walkmans have the feature of counting the songs and changing the ratings. These two (besides the traditional tags) are the basis for a lot of smart playlists i had in my stolen iPod. Thanks in advance
w.izzyHi w.izzy, I don’t know if this Sony counts how many times you play a song (I enjoyed that feature on my iPods too), or if it has a ratings/favorites feature that would update smart playlists, BUT the fall firmware update did enable this Walkman to stream playlists from your smartphone using Bluetooth! That way, all the playlists you made on the iPod (and hopefully synced back to your computer and iPhone) can still be used as-is, plus the apple ecosystem will then still be able to keep track of play count. An iPhone would stream using AAC, if you have a MacBook or iMac those platforms should have Apt-X codec for Bluetooth streaming. Massdrop also brought back the similar Acoustic Research M200 in another drop, and it also has this feature. It only has about a 9 hour battery life and buttons instead of a touchscreen, but it has a fairly powerful amp and the same 4.4mm balanced connector as the Sony (and 3.5mm SE connector), and is dropping for just $150. I got to hold both devices in person at CanJam events: they’re both pocket-sized worthy and worth considering :)

Evshrugthank you very much for your commets Mr. Evshrug
w.izzyEdit: Just heard back from a friend that owns a ZX 300, he doesn’t use playlists but he’s sure you can make playlist folders before loading them onto the SD card and the Sony will read them, also you can favorite tracks (which is kind of like rating them or making an On The Go playlist). He doesn’t know if the Sony keeps track of play count. (I guess he doesn’t use playlists like we do). Glad to be of service! Cheers! Ev ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

w.izzyHey w.izzy! I ended up buying a ZX300A, in black! So far, it’s awesome in every way, except my 2013 Volkswagen Golf doesn’t see it for Bluetooth pairing. For playlists, there’s settings options for every song to add to a playlist or a bookmark list... and there are 10 bookmark lists!

I like the “Recent Transfers” automatic playlist that helps me find my fresh stuff. There’s also a SenseMe feature I haven’t tried yet, but it seems like a computer program that analyzes the characteristics of all your songs, and automatically makes smart playlists like Pandora or iTunes Genius. However, there’s no play count or ratings feature. At this point, I know what my favorite songs are, so I just made a playlist with that (and another one for bedtime/falling asleep), and when I’m grooving and loving a song I add it to my first bookmark list. I could see myself using the other bookmark lists to catalog songs that I hear sound great with specific headphones, like one bookmark list for my Audeze Mobius (LDAC Bluetooth planar magnetic headphone), HD 58X, and my HD 800 (which sounds great with my 4.4mm Pentaconn cable!). I do wish the player would automatically update when I add songs to my computer’s library, and I wish I had my old smart playlist that would track my least played songs so I could hear something fresh. Since I use a Mac, I wonder if I could make a Smart Folder 📁 to replicate a feature like that, and drag it into the Walkman to replace the existing copy of the folder in the Walkman periodically... but I do know I can drag and drop playlists from iTunes directly into the Walkman (and replace existing playlists) easily. So, if you still use iTunes and your computer to manage playlists, you can essentially keep doing that and just drag the playlists that change over to “sync” it. Some more general things about this player... it’s really satisfying, physically. Fits in my hand and pocket more ergonomically than my iPhone, almost no visible seams, and just a quality of fit and finish that quietly arrests your attention (better than iPod!! 😱). The User Interface is very polished, surprisingly quick to get to any setting you want (and there’s a fair amount of settings, somehow presented in a way that doesn’t feel like too much). There’s no “type in a search” query, but you can filter by genre, artist, composer, album, release year, Hi-Res, Playlists, Folder, Recent Transfers, and SensMe channels. The Pentaconn output powers my HD 800, man!!
