I have owned both the MDR1000XM2’s and the Bose QC35M2’s and I can confidently say that while the Bose have better sound quality, he Sonys are far superior in noise cancellation (NC). I have worn the Sonys for 8 hours every workday for the past 3 months and can vouch for their excellent capabilities . If you want sound quality, go with the Bose. If you want to feel like you’re in a quiet forest while standing in the middle of the busssiest train station in the world, go with the Sonys. One note - the Sonys only reach peak NC after you use their optimizer feature to fine-tune the NC to your wearing position (this only takes about 4 seconds).

matthewevanbellI tried the MDR-1000, these and the QC 35s for hours at a store in NY before buying the Sony's. There is absolutely no way the Bose has better sound. The Bose has positively horrendous sound quality even relative to much cheaper cans. The Bose is much lighter and comfortable while sleeping on an airline seat but outside of that use case, these are superior. Now the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0/HD1 (renamed after a trademark issue) do have better sound quality.

akapurExactly. That guy's world is upside-down. Bose QC35 have absolutely garbage sound quality with pathetic highs and weak sounding lows. They're a bit lighter and have slightly better noise cancellation than the WHXs/MDRs. However, the MDRs/WHXs have vastly greater sound quality with much more punchier bass, better balanced highs, mids, and lows. It has a different type of sound that places an emphasis on the instruments used in a song. WHXs and MDRs also have more features such as placing your palm over the earcup to lower music volume in order to hear people talking to you. Let's be honest, Bose makes headphones the equivalent quality of Beats by Dre - just marketed towards older demographics.

akapurThis is exactly what I have found as well. The Sonys were heavy compared to the Bose, but the sound and the NC were much better. I do, however, really like the easy multiple connect on the Bose.
