I bought these at Amazon a couple of months ago and wanted to point out a couple of things that some of you might not be aware of. –This is sort of a mini-review.
First, any EQ changes that you do in the app results in a forced change of audio quality. This seems insane to me but, hopefully, Sony will rectify this issue in a future upgrade. –You guys should definitely give them feedback about this.
Second, I've read negative reviews about the call quality. If you adjust the Ambient Sound in the app to Voice, they work great for calls–or they did for me.
I absolutely LOVE the tech interface gadgetry, i.e. touch control on the ear cup, etc. I had the previous version but returned them to get the increased battery life and the LDAC codec–my primary device used with them is a Pixel 2 with AptX HD and LDAC. NFC is the bomb! Unlike other headphones that I've tried, NFC connection works EVERY time and almost every time it not only turns on the headphones with one tap but also connects via Bluetooth with that same tap. I occasionally had to tap a second time, but not often. It even turns on Bluetooth only Pixel 2 if it's off at the time. The Bluetooth range is rather extreme as well. I could wear them almost anywhere in my 3-level 1300 square foot condo and not loose a connection to the source.
Sound Quality - The LDAC codec didn't give me the improvement in sound quality that I had hoped. The soundstage sounds very compressed to me and feels like I'm on the outside listening in. I listen to lots of podcasts so this certainly isn't an issue for that and the extreme battery life certainly offsets this. However, even though I was ultimately smitten with the technical features, I returned them in favor of Audio-Technica DSR7BTs, which aren't noise cancelling. The Audio-Technicas fail abysmally in the Bluetooth performance department, including NFC connection with my Pixel 2. However, the ATs blow away the Sonys in terms of audio performance. The sonic profile is fairly neutral with with a little bit of warmth and character. The soundstage is open, light, immersive, and makes you feel like you're INSIDE of the soundstage rather than looking in from the outside like the Sonys did.
BUT I loved the Sonys as well and will likely purchase them again at some point in the future.
Just my 2 cents . . .
