I joined the Sony Alpha 6000 drop and should be getting that in the upcoming days. Need some guidance from someone with a little more experience. Should I get in on this drop now or play around with my new camera and kit lens for a a few weeks before dropping money on this new lens? Thanks for any input!

RheinmanIt doesn't hurt to get more lens for your camera. This price is a steal. It's up to you as to whether or not you want to get it. Changing the lens is a straight forward process. I recommending getting extra batteries because the camera runs through one pretty quickly from a normal day of use.

RheinmanI bought a Sony NEX-7 with the 18-55 kit lens about 4 years ago and I bought this 55-210 lens just a few weeks later for the added reach. There were really very few NEX lens choices back then and I paid close to the MSRP for this 55-210. It's worked fine all these years and the current asking price does make it good value. I wish it was faster (larger aperture) but that would make it too bulky and probably increase the price significantly. The fact that it has built-in optical stabilization is a huge plus.

RheinmanI've had an a6000 for the past 6 months, great camera can't fault it except maybe the battery life(as wolfleben said), I originally bought the single lens kit and after a short while I found myself wishing more and more for some zoom. After buying this lens I found I could use the camera more effectively in a lot more situations. You would be better off buying the lens now, especially at this price.

Mr_VoorakkaraThanks for the feedback everyone. I'll give myself a few days to think about it, maybe the a6000 will come soon and I can test it out over a day or two. Looked around online and the price really is awesome. Also I've heard of the battery issue so I'll definitely be grabbing some more soon. Thanks again!

RheinmanIve had this lens for a few months and am happy with it. This lens is much better than the kit one you are getting with you a6000 for sure and the price is very right. I don't think you will be disappointed. If you pick up some extension tubes you can do some some fairly decent macro work too.

RheinmanThis is actually sort of a kit lens, but it is definitely worth considering, you also need to consider if you need this type of lens. Also personally not a fan of the 16-50 kit lens, that thing distorts like crazy.

RheinmanIt really depends on what type of photography you want to do. For wildlife or sports, this 55-210 isn't a bad lens to get started in those areas, and the price is pretty decent. I bought one shortly after getting my a6000, and I use it quite often. Enjoy your new camera!
