Nice price on this lens. Any chance to get a drop on an E mount G series or Zeiss lens?

TJG-MDAgreed. I'm also hoping to see something with even wider zoom ranges. I've been looking very closely at the Sony 18-200 options because I want something I can take to press events and not have to worry about switching between lenses.

CodyToombsYou're limited with Sony on that. I went with manual focus lens from Nikon to get what I needed there.

lastzeroFor what I'm doing, Sony's 18-200 is plenty, and pretty moderately priced. I'm going to use it when I'm in the press seats at product announcements. I'm usually close enough to the stage that 200mm is more than enough to get in tight on whatever little gadget the presenter has in hand, then I can pull out to 18mm for a shot of a slide projected onto the wall. I have the 16-50 kit lens and 55-210 in this drop, and I covered CES this year, it was hard not to feel like a jackass as I kept switching back and forth between lenses a dozen times during announcements.
I don't do any bird watching or sporting events, so a serious telephoto lens is wasted on me right now. For recreational shooting, I'm mostly looking for the popular primes (35/50) and a good wide angle for landscapes and maybe even some astrophotography.

CodyToombsIf you can get up from <200mm will do it. As for being an mass, the other choice could be by a second body.

lastzeroI'd never take a second camera body into something like CES, or any big trade show for that matter. The seats are very tightly packed, there's no space set down gear, and you're going to be stuck carrying everything around all day long. In that situation, it's definitely better to walk in with a single body and lens that can be used for basically everything.

CodyToombsThat's never wrong. I went to GDC and went with that and a 24mm. As for carrying stuff, I'm use to having a big backpack around and no one seemed to mine. However, everyone for that brings laptops so the always fun getting people to fit in presentations.

CodyToombsI just bought the 18 -200 mm lens, not the LE version, used from lens authority for $520 with VG condition and extra $14 for the extended warranty, lens was in good shape, minor scratches on the body, no problem with the glass, will be doing some testing on it.

JunyangI ended up getting the 18-200 power zoom model (I also do video) a few months after my earlier post. It was a combination of Amazon Warehouse deals that got a huge markdown in the end. Technically used, but not a mark on it. I think it had just been in a damaged box because there's no sign it had ever been out of the plastic before I got it, not even a fleck of dust.
It's considerably sharper than the 55-210 and the zoom ranges are pretty perfect for my needs. I didn't end up at CES this year, but it's still coming in handy for other things. I have a few lenses, but I keep the 18-200 on my camera when it goes back in the case since it's easily the most used. I still need to sell the 55-210 (and maybe the 16-50) because it's completely useless to me now.
