Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

For somebody who 'knowsthings' your post has a distinct lack of useful information.
This is providing no useful information at all. You may as well say "OMG you n00b!!111!!" It's not helpful or constructive.
All I know is that they are in a similar price range.
Stillhart however did give a useful reply as to some of the differences that was useful to me and I am sure other that are not self proclaimed headphone experts.
Care to explain what closed monitor headphones are and why they are on a different level to these?
Winston Churchill, if you have further doubts about HP 200 why don't you head down to my post with 5 reviews on it and just read through. It won't have any related to M50x's though since its a closed headphone.
From what I have learned this is probably not for me, I want to increase my audio experience for when at work, but also I have to work in a busy office environment, so sound isolation (both for me and others around me) is important. Thus I think I will go for the MX50x with a DAC / amp.
Again, i'm a non audiophile, just asking for basic information. Not sure why this is so entertaining...
Open or semi-closed headphones on the other hand usually have vents to allow air into the cups. Semi-closed headphones usually have a porous foam pad stuck right inside the vent to limit the amount of air passing through.
For the workplace, I would recommend semi-closed headphones. They have enough isolation so that the person beside you shouldn't be able to hear your music (unless you turn it up a lot), and there's enough air for you to notice when someone's talking to you.
Regarding difference between closed and open, imagine a drum which is closed on both ends another which is open from one end. Do you think they would sound the same? The one which is closed from both ends will sound deep but almost muffled. While the one with one end open would not sound do deep but it will resonate clearly and freely. Which do you think will sound the most natural? The one with one side open would sound more natural, open and clearly because it can 'breathe' easier.
The same logic applies to open back and closed back headphones. One is more natural and clear and the other more intimate and bassy.
Hope this helped you. I was a non audiophile too some months back but learnt with the kind help from fellow Massdrop'ers. Everyone's here to help.
Could you recommend a good semi-closed for less than $200?
Check out head-fi for some good reviews of the HP100/150.
