In response to the difficulties with the grips, I found that getting some hot, but not boiling, water and placing the grips in it for about 5 minutes makes them much easier to slide on, no pliers needed!

FlutterdieI had a hell of a time dealing with those rubber handles, too. Instead of hot water, though, I put them on a metal baking tray and put them in the oven at the very lowest setting, "warm."
After a few minutes they are warm and pliable and easy to slide on.
I personally am wary of using water, as any moisture that is trapped inside has no way to evaporate. I worry about that causing rusting (I'm not sure if the pick bodies are stainless steel or not, but even stainless steel can rust depending on the formulation and in conditions of prolonged water exposure).
Just my two cents.

K.T.NI was worried about rusting as well, and to avoid that I only filled the glass that I had the handles sitting in to the point where the handles could not fill with water. Using a glass with a small diameter helped with this.
I was worried about the handles melting or deforming in the oven, so I chose to use water. The ideal solution would be to use a heat gun, but I did not have access to one at the time.
