Holding out for the special Watergate Break-In Commemorative Collector Set--comes with a six-year sentence and a free Presidential pardon.
What is the differences other than slimmer metal between the 2 sets ? I am a newbie. What would be better out of those 2 to buy ?

Is the 9 set going to work in the US or only in Europe? Not sure if you answer was geared toward people in the US or in EU
shibelove
Both will work in either US or EU. The EU tends towards tighter keyways from what I understand, so the slimline (9) may be extra preferable in Europe, but I'd go with it for either the US or EU.
I purchased the same 9 piece set almost six years ago, these things are built for life. Excellent starter kit or carry kit, has saved my butt a few times when I locked myself out of my apartment.
I have use them a few times during the course of my day But only for good reason! They don't weigh very much or take up much room In my bag along with some lock shims .In a worst case scenario . You never know! But to each his own
So I’m just curious and I do not intend to slam or make fun of lock picking, I think it’s really cool and would love to get into, but I do not understand why you would carry them in say an edc it just does not seem practical to me as I personally have never been like “man, I wish I could pick this lock right now.” At least in a day to day sense. Again I do not mean to offend or be rude I’m just curious if anyone has had a practical use for lock picking.

I was locked out of my house one night, drunk, with nowhere to go. Luckily I always have my lock picks, so i got in the house (clumsily) within 5 minutes. Similar situations happen occasionally with me, so it's an easy edc for me.

A lot depends on your daily activities. One day at work I forgot the keys to a piece of equipment and the lock for my cooler. I had the picks with and ran the equipment for the day and got to take my cooler with me.
id just save my money and get an auto pick if i needed a lock pick.

Very cool, but that's $180. This is $18.... :)
hmm... unfortunately, this drop may ILLEGAL in Japan...
Based on the link eddiek provided (and is copied below), it would appear these items are "nonmailable and should be disposed of by the USPS" (notwithstanding the exceptions noted) ....this just MIGHT be the reason some of the drop buyers have had their picks "picked off" once it got handed off to the USPS? Reading further down it mentions UPS and FedEx cannot be used to ship them either. Geeze.......
Joseph Tousignant, Ti Rod Tactical http://lockwiki.com/index.php/Legal_issues Transfer of Tools In the United States, U.S.C 39.3002a states that locksmithing tools are nonmailable and should be disposed of by the Postal Service (USPS). Exceptions to the rule include:
  • A lock manufacturer or distributor
  • A "bona fide" locksmith
  • A "bona fide" repossesor
  • A motor vehicle manufacturer or dealer
Being "bona fide" is not clearly defined, and the hobbyist is a grey area. In reality, most packages are allowed to continue through the postal system.Another relevant law in the United States is U.S.C. 18.1716A(b) which prohibits sending lockpicks through other private delivery services such as UPS or Fedex unless you meet one of the exempted categories in USC Ch.39 Sec.3002A. This effectively prohibits any inter-state delivery of lockpicks using either the USPS or private courier unless you are exempted. In practice, online retailers and hobbyist organizations regularly sell and ship picks and other accouterments without incident.

i have never had any issues with receiving these. but i am a (bonidfide user) but that being said...no where is there a disclaimer or request for any PROOF. and these items are NOT illegal to own (for hobby /knowledge/ curiosity reasons) .just illegal to carry ( with Intent to commit a crime)or use outside of ones own property again with an intent to commit a crime or without the lock/safes owners permission) ( business / home) if not one of those professions listed. .so they really have no legal precedent to confiscate them. in fact doing so would be unconstitutional most laws governing the MISUSE of them are state laws. ..id like to hear from anyone within the US. that actually has had them taken .
Well, thanks to Fedex passing off my package to USPS persons unknown have a new set of lockpicks. @#$%^&!

Hello!!! Can I Just Order The User Manuals? How Much?
mdiu
the user manual is available online for free
http://index-of.es/Lockpicking/Easy%20Pickings%20-%20Mini%20Lockpicking%20Manual.pdf
, but there is better information on youtube. start with lockpickinglawyer and bosnianbill . also do not buy super cheap lockpicking sets from china. sparrows has great price to value. southord is great but you really have to polish them to make the usable. i would start with a sparrows set and buy a prybar set from peterson. tensioners are more important than picks as long as those picks are polished. also mad bob comes semi prepolished and has good pricing.
which set would be the best for a hobbyist like myself who just picks for the fun of it? Id originally thought you can get both for just 5 dollars more, but it seems its 5 dollars more for the second kit ONLY. lmk

needs more tension tools and pry bars though and it would be great.
mut389
id try the 9 piece. almost everything for beginners. get a couple practice locks , AND be gentle dont try to force anything or youll end up with broken picks. FINESSE is the word on these things. less is more.
Sorry for the silly question but do you have to pay extra to get is posted in the UK ? (if so, how much)
Tinywolf123
check out mad bob picks for great UK picks
why is someone selling these things?? wtf

...Back in the days we even got bongs, pipes, and vapes on the site. Please bring it back!
Mohjong
I wish they'd bring that category back, part of the original user base was made up of fans of the category and getting rid of it was a major dis-service to customers in their pursuit of a better company-image.
This is my first drop, any ides approximately how long it takes to get out to us?
Load 1 more comment
3 months to a 1 year
Himthar
with the exceptions of actual mass drop items id count on a month AFTER the drop ends...BUT it can take longer its pretty much at the manufacturers speed. ive seen it take 3 onths on some things and ive had some in 10 days or so...
I'm gonna get it just so I can carry it around like Magnum P.I. It would be even cooler if Massdrop had paired it with Magnum's team ring too! Cue theme music!!!
GoAztecs
u can have those..ill take the Ferrari........and the Hawaiian shirts

thanks for clarifying
"must show intent"...ie prima facie. Evident without proof or reasoning or obvious IE..reasonable man theory...IE. what the arresting officers can pass off to the prosecutor...( and how bad they want your pick set )....
Is shipping free for international orders? I don't see the usual shipping cost to my country under the product price.

If you click "join drop" you'll be able to see the shipping cost on the checkout page.
Ok, so if you purchase these lockpicks in order to become a locksmith you're a long way out from using them except on the lil shoddy clear lock you find. The hook in this set is really hefty with a wide flat to lift pins, not very useful in American high security locks. The bogota in this set feels smallish in comparison to the $15 ebay kit, like the peak/valley isnt far enough difference to rake the pins set. the tension wrenches are far superior to the cheapey ebay, as is the leather case. these are neat for basic intro to locksport, but not a professional level kit. Sparrowslockpicks makes pro level locksmithing gears if thats what you're after, and there are a lot of gimmicky sets that cost an arm and a leg elsewhere to beware of.

The law can eat my shorts, i carry them. Not this set, but its leather case is neat! I only carry the bogota, single hook, city rake, and half diamond (all from other kits) with the heavy bars and latchpuller from sparrows. They call the latchpuller something else, but it is a dandy little tool.
no , depending on the state depends on what possession is legal or illegal. MOST states it is not illegal to own OR carry..unless there is some evidence you were intending to use in a crime.
What is with the huge popularity in lockpicking sets? Are you all locksmiths or what? Do you lose all of yours keys often? Do you pick locks to pass time? Is it for some kind of B.O.B. Just curious. I'm not inferring you're all burglars.

My father passed away recently and many of his valuables were left in lock boxes around his house. I've been unable to find the keys, and I don't want to tear up the lock boxes, so I'm hoping these will help me pick them. Other than that, I've just always been interested in learning how to use them, even though I'm not a thief.
FutureFossil
for most its like anything else..knowledge and fun to tinker. for B.O. B id just kick the door in or use the handy dandy crowbar/hammer/axe uber tactical tool in my bag to force/ break/ etc. besides by then the LAW wouldn't be an issue. .
@Tyler Any update? Didn't see anything on the 9th.
this is my 1st drop too.. hope that their follow through is better then Indiegogo and kickstarter
hanriktan
It is. this is my fourth drop.

Even with the fine print you're setting yourselves up for some potential legal issues here guy's. Not a good or clever idea selling these specialist tools.
Load 9 more comments
You are so unbelievably stupid. This site specifies in the fine print that these tools are for specialists only, and even then a very low percentage of burglaries (around 6.5%) are committed using lock picks, which is brought even lower by the fact that the 6.5% also includes the use of pass keys. In conclusion, you shouldn't be ashamed to introduce this site to friends because they're selling lock pick sets to locksmiths and firefighters, not criminals.
My roommate has a lock on the side gate to the back yard, and forgets to unlock it for the lawn service. Tells me to open the garage (has a door to back yard), but remove tools and anything else worth stealing. (apparently they don't trust the yard guy they hired) That was too much trouble for me, so here's what I've been doing instead.
http://i.imgur.com/91u20ak.jpg The point is, if someone wants to get in, it's going to happen. A thief will not bother picking the lock. they will use destructive methods. (bolt cutters on padlocks, break a window, smash a door lock with a sledge hammer, or smash the door itself if it's a good lock)
These would NOT be useful in any criminal activity. Lockpicking is not fast enough. Provides way too much time to attract attention. Only a complete moron would try to use these for criminal purposes.
