I see alot of these on Md. Are there alot of certified locksmiths in this community forum. I certainly don't understand this as a hobby. I just hide a spare key outside of my houses. I don't think this should be a "hobby" that should be promoted. Untill now, I did not know that these items were available to just anyone. I'm sure there are people who buy these with the intent to see if"I can do this", just as I'm sure there are people with other intentions.

ElsidIt's kind of like knives, guns, etc.... they've been legally available for ages, so the tools are out there. They're not hard to build or replicate (old hacksaw blades make great picks once reshaped). Anybody with basic mechanical skills can build any number of devious devices to do sketchy things at their kitchen table. However, nifty professional sets like this are nicer to use and don't require time to craft at home. Besides, better to have a skill you never use than to need a skill you don't have, yeah?

Dkop1Guns and knives are for self defense, hunting, or whittling, etc. Lock picks are for getting into your own house or car and for getting into others. I worry about the others. A good hobby to learn if you like picking, is guitar. Peace! of mind.

ElsidI only mention the guns and knives as an example of devices that can be used for harm that are already out and available to the masses, and also could be built by somebody if determined enough to do so. Much like anything, any object is good or bad based on the intentions of it's user. Some people shoot for fun, others kill. Some people use matches to light up a pipe, others commit arson. Some have computers for mindless Facebook and YouTube browsing, others hack foreign banks. For most of us, lockpicking is a fun puzzle. And sometimes helps when you lose the key to your toolbox AGAIN and have to get a hold of the spare you keep inside... Ahem... Not that I've done that far too many times

Dkop1True. Hey, I understand, I like puzzles too. It's been nice chatting with you. You didn't get all defensive on me. Well, at least maybe we made some food for thought. Communication that creates insight and understanding is always a good thing. Still, if I were a merchant, I would not offer this product. Hopefully they will only go to the good guys like you, but I think thats probably too idealistic. Have a good time with your puzzle. I'm gonna go do the crossword and then pick on the guitar. Cheers!

ElsidI pick on the guitar AND pick on locks! They both bring great pleasure and yes, the overwhelming majority of us are not doing anything illegal with regards to possessing lock picks. Besides as Dkop1 stated, you can build these from numerous everyday materials anyway.
