Friendly reminder that Massdrop's lawyers, while being correct in notating that they can't be held liable for anyone using such tools illegally, whiffed the ball on that owning entry tools is not illegal and in-training individuals would otherwise have no other way to acquire them if it were illegal to own them without some rudimentary-level accreditation (if any even exists in your jurisdiction).
As you will note, various other lockpicking tool kits both here on Massdrop and elsewhere on the internet got that message...
i have both the 7 and the 8 pin pick i was wondering if you guys are ever goning to add the tpxa-10 the 10 pin version

The pictures do a very poor job a presenting the product, so I don't understand how these work XD
Can anyone explain?

No shame in asking man, I even had to look up how this set worked. Middle knob adjusts tension of pins and pins will adjust to tubular lock pin heights. Here's a video that I think uses this exact set, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulzZ9T2oGPE
Mine arrived the other day. Took me a couple of goes to get the feel for it, but I’ve now managed to pick the locks on both of my arcade cabinets! Both had been locked with the doors actually removed and the keys lost in a house move. It meant I couldn’t put the doors back on... Anyway, both have 6 pin tubular locks. Quite an easy job with the 7 pin pick. I have no experience with other tubular lock picks, but for what it’s worth, these seem like a quality product which got the job done easily.

This is a great review because people always ask what you would need these for other than criminal activity, and you've provided an example most people would never think of.

^ This. I'm so sick of seeing "Oh goodie, another Thugdrop." comments every time picks show up in EDC and Hobby communities...
When I got my NEO-GEO cabinet several years ago, the coin door lock had been removed, but the marquee bezel's hadn't... (On a NEO-GEO cab you swap 'mini marquees' to show what games are slotted in the machine, so frequent access to the area behind the marquee is part of normal operation.) So the only way I could open it was to take all the screws out of the bezel... And of course, being a vintage 1991 cabinet made with materials from the lowest bidder, the particle board around the screws disintegrated. :(
There's plenty of perfectly legitimate reasons to own lock picks, even if you "refuse to believe that locksport is a thing."
I'm gonna use this to open up a some doors!
damnit.. i missed this one... lets hope it comes back.

At 7hrs left, "Sold Out"!!! But each are available??! I am with the frowns on how the intents and purposes of what "Mass Drop" is marketed as...... Clearly the organizers are in for a penny, out for a pound, they are making money. The collective bulk purchase concept has been around forever, with price breaks that really make sense. Many prices here are not getting much of my attention. Why are these "Drops" closed ended before they start? I will look at this again if both are priced better and not used as a marketing "football" to squeeze me into a not so well priced single unit.
How can the 7/8 combo be "sold out", but I can still buy both separately at full price 🤔?

I think it was available earlier in the week, but by the time I decided to pull the trigger it was "sold out". Which doesn't make much sense in the context of mass drop and how mass drop orders work. Especially since you can still buy both separately. Though if it helps, both snapon tool boxes and the pepsi machine I looked at today were 7 pins.

I've owned a single 7 pin but it wasn't southord for some reason I never get notifications for the drops like this I actually want because I wouldn't hesitate on this drop. As a matter of fact I was just shopping around for these this past week because I bought a new set of pics from Sparrows but they don't sell tubular lock picks
"...buyer certifies that he/she/it is one or more of the following: a bona fide locksmith; lock distributor; bona fide repossessor; motor vehicle dealer; lock manufacturer; or a motor vehicle manufacturer, law enforcement officer; a bona fide fire fighter; a bona fide purchaser for one of the aforementioned; and/or a customer who will have this purchase shipped outside the United States, its possession, or territories."
Can't imagine that is many people on Massdrop. *shrugs*

Overall pretty sketchy to advertise actively that you can get the set at a discount and then not offer the discount. Also real classy not securing the credit card transactions, you'd think as an online merchant properly using ssl would be commonplace.
acapobianco
you can get it at a discount...40 bucks extra for both is a discount...read much?
I have the 7 pin version of this and it works incredibly well. It is just a hobby for me, but has come in very handy at work for the times when coworkers lose or forget their keys to their tool boxes. Of course always be responsible and know your local laws.

I've been looking at the lock picking for at least a year. For me it'd just be a side hobby that I would do every once in awhile. Assuming my hands cooperate, always hurt and sometimes can't use them at all. I think it would be somewhat fun and gratifying, and I get to swear out loud when I struggle with it :) I don't do that, but I assume 60% to 90% buy for a hobby and for prepping, just in case scenarios. The other are for like someone said; apartment, landlord type issues. They are absolutely needed for some people. You have to tell the wife or significant other to justify the money on these things. So either a hobby or prep type stuff.

What diameter of lock is this for? (7/7.5/7.8mm?)
Why is massdrop selling so many lock picks and pry bars etc... Is this a community for robbers??? Certainly those can be used in case one locks oneself out, but what are the chances that they will carry their tool with them???

Certainly a community with trolls.

Yeah. I think I will skip this one.. and wait for the combo being available again.
No judgement. I'm just curious. What's with all the lockpicking stuff always on here, and what's that got to do with everyday carry? Make your keys part of your everyday carry list ... problem solved.

do you even EDC? prep? prepping includes many things...edc is one.

I've been lock picking for about a year and mostly for me its the challenge. I carry around a small set with me on the off chance there may be a need for them but most of the time I just enjoy pushing the limits of what locks I can crack. If you have a few bucks I'd highly suggest trying it out :)
Thanks so much....my neighbor uses tubular locks on his motorcycle!

Will these work on locks with fewer than 7 pins?
atomicthumbs
No because the lock changes shape/pin placement(unless you popped out a pin for some reason?) for specialty locks you need to pick it by hand with a tubular tension wrench and a pick
What's the inner diameter of the 7 pin lockpick?
