The Spinnaker Dumas takes its name from the well-known deep sea explorer Frédéric Dumas, one of Jacques Cousteau's longtime friends and right-hand men. Decidedly vintage, the Dumas features an eight-sided steel case with aggressive angles, not unlike an old diving instrument Read More
Well I bought two of these as gifts.
The Spinnaker logo and three dial markers already fell off and the spring bar on one side keeps coming out on one.
Watch was used under normal wear.
I am rather speechless, I thought this was a good brand.
After a trip from NJ via Canada all the way to Petah Tikva, my Dumas has finally arrived. The bracelet leaves much to be desired, bit the watch itself is perfectly shaped and sized, and for this price, I can't really complain.
My 5th Spinnaker watch, and probably not the last one.
GOT MINE a day ago and much more impressive than i thought it would be. however, i bought it knowing of the limitations of the 8015 movement used...another drop purchaser was upset with the movement not knowing of the issue...here is my response to him as it also details my plans to swap the 8015 miyota for a 9015 miyota:
'this is a miyota 8015 movement where the second hand is not directly attached to the drive so when shaken it will stop briefly and then resume movement. i have researched this thoroughly on google, it is standard for this type of secondary drive attached second hand, many older fine swiss watches having the same issue. the hand may halt briefly when the watch is shaken, but it does not stop the movement from keeping the correct time. it is simply a well known feature of this movement. i personally love the watch so much i purchased it knowing of this issue...and will probably purchase a 9015 movement which has direct drive seconds, and have it installed by my watchmaker. on google you can find watch parts sellers or ebay with it for about $90, and it will fit into the case and hands, has hacking, winding, 28,000 bpm vs. 21,000. watchmaker shouldn't charge more than $30-$50 for the swap. if it sounds like a lot, then enjoy it as is as this movement, despite the halting, is one of the most robust and rugged out there. if you spend the $150 or so for the upgrade, you will have an amazing watch since the case/etc is worthy of a $1000 to $1500 timepiece. the 9015 movement is used in diver microbrands that generally run in the $450 to $700 range, and do NOT have a case/dial/hands any better than this piece.'
johnnyjohnnyThe 9015 isn't a direct replacement for the 8215, while the diameter is the same the thickness isn't, the case is machined for the 8215 so stem hole will be in the wrong place for the 9015, also the dials are not interchangable the posts are in different places. About the only thing these 2 movements have in common is the hand fitment. I'd highly recommend talking to your watchmaker first before you buy a movement.
santomeasounds like it is defective...it's a great watch even with this movement which has been extremely accurate...i'd try to get it replaced vs refund as it is beautiful. good luck with it.

wow...longtime watch collector but had never used massdrop before. had ordered the black dial version of this, but just decided to change my mind and was really happy how easy to order the different color and then cancel the other one.
as for the watch, not a fan of the 8015 movement with the slight stutter on the seconds hand if shaken because it is not directly connected to the watch drive, but have read up on the movement and the stutter does not lose time and this is an ultra rugged proven engine. what i could NOT resist was the design of the watch. it is not able to be resisted by true vintage watch afficianados, a retro 50s modern. the non-guarded crown is the best look for timepieces, and the chunk case is classic early compressor/diver style. looking forward.
johnnyjohnnyThis was the first time I ever used MassDrop and the price right now around the web for this watch ranges from 350-450. If I had the funds, I would have bought four altogether.
My best friend, and my step-dad and I all go sailing and I was thinking of these as nice gifts during Father's day...I hope they stand up to the occasional sail.
