Got the Cahill from the last drop...the Miyota movement gains over 2 min / day which is far off by any measures...and there was a stain (fingerprint?) On the movement...Visible through the display case back...still a good value but not free of problems.

Ronkra76I also joined the Cahill drop and noticed something on the movement through the clear back of the case. On further inspection it appears to be slight tooling marks and not a fingerprint; not a surprise for a watch and movement at this price point. I'm not suggesting that there isn't a stain or fingerprint on the movement of your watch (anything is possible), just that it could be something else.
However, your watch gaining 2 minutes a day is unacceptable, even for a Miyota movement. Offhand, I think the specs for the 8215 are -20 to +40 seconds per day. Out of the box my Cahill has been running around +2 to 4 seconds per day, which is fine by me. You might want to consider getting yours replaced by Massdrop or Spinnaker. Cheers and good luck!

JTrubsThanks for your reply...could be tooling marks but rather looked like some kind of stain. I have several Seikos and Orients some with display back, non of them had any kind of such marks. Even thou some of them had been even cheaper than the Cahill. I guess the QC in the Chinese factory where these Spinnakers are made can be improved. IF my watch maker can fix it for a few bucks than its fine for me...a sub 150 USD watch, at least what I paid would not be worth the hassle of sending it to the US from Germany.

JTrubsSo is this definitely the 8215? The Miyota 821A and 6T15 also are 21-jewel automatics with simple date windows.

CloacaI'm not sure about the 6T15 but the 821A is basically a newer 8215. It might be decorated a bit nicer, but it looks like they're both 21600 bph with similar accuracy, similar power reserve, and Spinnaker seems to decorate their rotors with a personalized touch anyway. Not that the 8215 is bad. It's used in quite a lot of watches from Bulova to Junkers. It just doesn't hack and it's 6 beats per second which isn't quite as smooth as ETA caliber or miyota's 9015.

CloacaMy apologies for the confusion, Cloaca, Ronkra and I were actually discussing the Cahill. Probably should've taken it over to the proper thread, lol.
That said, I can't find "official" specs from Spinnaker that state exactly what the Dumas movement is, but the review I've linked to below indicates that it's Miyota 8215 (no clue where the writer got his information, so I wouldn't take it as set in stone). There's no mention of hacking either, which would definitely rule out the 8215. Cheers! http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/first-impressions-spinnaker-dumas-300m-automatic-diver-4190578.html

JTrubsI'm not a big fan of the Miyota 8215...it mechanism (crown) feels very notchy and grindy. Whether changing time, winding, or relocking the screw down crown. The Seiko NH-35 and the Miyota 9015 are a dream in comparison...

ShinytoysI'm in agreement with you about the mechanism feeling "gritty"; there are definitely smoother and better Miyota and Seiko movements to be had. That said, the 8215 is a workhorse and, personally, I've found their accuracy to surpass my expectations for the price point. But your mileage may vary, as the saying goes. Cheers!
