crossfire713Until the discussion on this drop I've never heard anyone complain about xhp before. Would you care to elaborate on why you don't like it? As far as I can tell it compares favorably with S35vn and is superior to vg10 and s30v that Spyderco puts on many knives in this price range.
NotsurewhyibotherIn description, it states that this steel is comparable to 440C but a little harder. Don't see them saying it's comparable to S35VN. That's all I know to go by. Not a steel expert.
crossfire713XHP is a modern super steel. This is also a limited edition variant of a discontinued knife. Not a ripoff at all, and cheaper than any other vendor that still has stock.
crossfire713Shit steel? It's got better edge retention than S35VN with comparable corrosion resistance. They just didn't advertise it well when they made the sinful nigh-disgusting choice of comparing it to 440c in the product description.
crossfire713Granted, this list is one person's observations on edge retention, so the sample size is small and different batches of each knife and steel reported here could vary. But if you want a list for edge retention, https://www.patreon.com/posts/17366331 .
It doesn't factor in toughness, ease of sharpening, corrosion resistance, proneness to chipping, etc. But it makes a good starting point for "good steel vs bad steel".
phurgawtinFirst of all ,I didn't call it shit steel. I also stated that I was going by comparison description for the knife. Thanks for the extra info.
