This drop is worth it. Yes it’s the same price as everywhere else but you get a Spyderco pock stone with it, which is so worth it. The blade is small enough that you can’t mess up the edge if you lay it flat with your finger on the edge and draw the blade away, not like you’re cutting into the stone.

FitandFinishAnd MD is charging us Shipping and Tax, while other vendors charge NO Shipping and NO Tax. The Pocket Stone is worth nothing to me. I do my sharpening at home, not at the burger joint while having lunch.

Where is this one made?
Weirdly, I can't see it listed in the description or in the specs.
More weirdly, there is no shot of the side of the blade where the steel/origin is listed.
Is this, below, whats written on the 'hidden' side of the blade:

ROLEXXHP is carpenter steel from the US, but the knife is made in Taiwan.

Spyderco is pricing seems schizophrenic from my consumer perspective. Sometimes their prices are really outstanding for the knife you get. For example on this drop, the Chap with the noble raffir handle is BEAUTIFUL; blade steel is XHP, my current, undisputed favorite in the second-best tier of steels; and it's a Spyderco so it's obviously well-made, but it's extra tough because of the lockback mechanism, which is way better than a liner lock and not much heavier. Overall, for such a unique, ergonomic, solidly built knife, approx $125 is a steal.
But--
Want a Ti frame/scales? That's a little >$200, which is no steal but not unreasonable for a good Ti knife, even a small one.
However, if you just HAVE to have the "stepped Ti" for whatever reason, now you're up around $350, or pretty close. Thems chump prices, esp when the "regular" Ti frame is around $200.
I dont get it, and I'm not complaining because I like that Spyderco offers the different builds at different prices; I've had my noble raffir Chap for about three months and its great. First knife I bought for the handle, but turned out to be great all around. How big a Spyderco fan or Ti lover do you have to be to get that really expensive one? Are there that many idle rich who buy Spyderco knives? Again, not a gripe, just a nonplussed question.

HatuletohThe stepped titanium version is beautiful, and I love my Chaparral, but yeah for that price I think I'll go see what Kizer's got going. They do great work with titanium, my Velox2 feels like a gorgeous bar of soap for instance, and they generally don't overcharge for fancier milling patterns.
The smooth ones are way more likely to go on a deep sale, but the milled ones aren't twice the price either.

The Chap is a great knife.... highly recommended........ But I don't see how selling products at the same price they are available everywhere benefits MD customers.

Love this company, but assuming this is the same as the C152PGY on Amazon, they have it for the exact same price. I thought group purchasing would create better buying power/lower prices.

LostabroadIt's a Spyderco specific MAP thing. But MD has typically gotten around it by offering carrying pouches that you could turn down for a bit of a markdown. Doesn't look to be the case here.

NotsurewhyibotherDouble agreed. It is an awesome little knife
No option to turn down the stone for a discount? I have zero need for a portable sharpening stone and it's just MAP if you don't want the stone.

scusiThanks for your advice on not buying a drop that ended two weeks ago. Very helpful and timely. You have really added some unique and interesting thoughts to the conversation. I look forward to more of your keen insight in the future.
