I guess I'm not seeing the value in this one either, can anyone enlighten me?
Aside from the fact that there's no option this time for lowering the cost by dropping the carry case.... I paid less then this for the yojimbo 2 here. Larger blade, more expensive blade material (CPM-S30V), also g10 scales. Only thing I see to up the price here is a small bit of CF, but not even enough of that to make up the difference in blade material costs?

KavikContoured handle, carbon fiber, more complex grind, and better fit and finish in general. It adds up. Up to you if that makes it worth it though.

fhoodOkay, the contoured handle and polished CF add steps to the manufacturing, I'll give you that 👍 But the CF itself, meh, that's not the elusive rarity/expense that it used to be. And both are hollow grind, not sure what you mean about a more complex grind?
But I'll counter your contoured handles with this: simple liner lock instead of the compression lock. I'm guessing that's a higher cost difference to them than flat vs contoured machining on the scales
Don't get me wrong, it's a cool looking little knife. I'm not trying to knock it just for the sake of knocking it, and not saying it won't be worth it to some.... I was just genuinely trying to see where the value is because i DO like the looks of it....i just can't find anything to convince myself it's worth the price

KavikThis is way cooler than a Yojimbo, but I agree that they blew their valuation all to hell by using VG-10 on such a high-end knife, and also their pricing structure sucks to begin with.
To me this looks like a fairly priced knife where you are getting good value overall but an unimpressive steel for the price range.

fhoodi dont know if that small bit of CF inlay amounts to much to compensate that price difference. a full milled CF scale would justify the cost a bit but not that tiny inlay.

OmniseedYes, that's exactly what i mean. Value-wise for the materials doesn't seem to be comparable to other knives in their line up, it's just all up and down all over the place lol If they weren't selling knives with higher end steel, more costly locking mechanisms, and larger blades for around this same price I would've been less likely to raise an eyebrow at this price tag
Higher end steel in the same knife would've sucked me in to another purchase

KavikHonestly I really like spyderco vg-10, so the steel doesn't bother me at all. But more importantly, where the price difference really stems from is the handle shape, and the overall level of polish. I suspect that the machining costs for the handle far outweigh the materials in it anyway.

fhoodYeah, i'm also not opposed to VG-10 either. I've got a couple pocket knives with that steel that have held up well, and a few kitchen knives that are definite keepers But, same as the CF.... It just doesn't have the high costs that it used to either
I only meant a higher cost steel would justify this price to me, or at a slightly lower price I'd be happy with this steel choice
I guess I'd have to see one in person to appreciate the work in the handle....'cause I've seen many knives, in many materials, with more complex contouring than this. Unless you can tell me each one gets its final finish and polish by hand? Then I could see the added value.

KavikHmm well, there is a decent discussion on it to be found here. https://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?t=71576

fhoodLol great, just what I needed, a whole thread full of enablers hahaha
Funny, one thing I find in googling is some people complaining about the same thing you're praising. That the polish makes it a little too slippery for handling a small knife. Different strokes, right? :) Anyway, I think I'm going to take a pass, but it's been fun talking about what goes into these things beyond just raw materials
