Has anyone else noticed the price drop on the zippered pouch. It used to be a $15 to $20 refund for declining it. $5 to $10 may not seem a lot but it adds up. Imo. Just seems funny that prices are inflating on everything except the one thing that will save me some money.

Gunnersmate2I always thought it was a flat $15 until I saw a more consistent $10 when I paid more attention to blade drops. I will very rarely see $20 discounts, and it's been on a Sprint run or two, and some very expensive ~$175+ drops. On a couple I checked, opting out of a pouch meant you saved about $5 compared to other retailers.
For what little I've checked, the pouch opt-out seems to take the drop from on-par with retailers or a minor discount, to something decent. More-so a Minor discount though.

Gunnersmate2Considering you can get the same knife on Amazon for 111, and the average is running around 113, they should drop the price to a more reasonable level, _and_ give you the pouch, seeing as how it's referenced as "complimentary" to begin with.

RRFluffyIt’s how they get around Spydercos MAP policy.

BenzoAaaahhhh, there we go. I recall a discussion concerning MAP on here a while back, and how it leads to "coupon applied at checkout" situations. Makes sense, ty!

BenzoWhat is the MAP policy? I'm guessing it's a price restriction?

Gunnersmate2Yes, it’s Minimum Advertised Price. Spyderco is quite strict about it. However, other brands like CRKT have a MAP policy and don’t enforce it much At all. Hope that helps.

Gunnersmate2MAP policy is one of the top reasons the influx of 'clones' is so rampant (well, IMO anyhow :) Legit dealers are stuck charging proverbial "top dollar" for the brands enforcing MAP policy, so forget about sales or "bargain hunting". This drives many people to the "secondary market" (e.g eBay) looking for a deal, because not everyone can afford to spend $200+ on a knife that should really sell for 25% less to begin with (aka "the butterfly tax" :) . Unfortunately, not everyone is entirely honest on those auction sites (go figure!) , and 'clones' are often passed-off as the real-deal. Rinse-repeat ... the cycle continues. MAP goes up year-after-year, and selling cheap copies become a more attractive venture.
