How would you compare this knife to a Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian? Blade length, total size/weight and clip style are pretty similar. I'm sure someone could go on about differences in steel or blade pattern, but I'm more interested in the overall usefulness and enjoyment factor. I have an REI coupon that would bring the Griptilian into the same price range. Which is a better knife?

slbearI have owned both a Native and a couple different Griptillians. I think the Native feels better in my hand, but the back lock is kind of a pain in the ass to close easily. The Griptillian axis lock is great, but I find their plastic scales/handles have a bit of an un-solid/hollow feeling, like they could be crushed accidentally and should be sturdier. And I know it doesn't matter but I really don't care for Mel Pardue's obnoxious signature, that is etched on the back of Griptillian blades. You really should hold both (if possible) before you make the decision. The G10-scaled versions of both knives are much more solid and I think MUCH nicer. Also, if you can, hold a regular Griptillian and compare it to the mini. If you don't have to worry about blade size laws, I'd totally go for the larger size.

slbearMy mini-Griptilian has the Spyderco-style hole and bulge in the blade, and I really like that feature and the axis lock. But I like this blade's overall shape better than the "sheepsfoot" style (if I have that correct) that my mini-griptilian has. This knife interests me because it looks like a more elongated (less chubby) version of my Spyderco Ambitious.
