What is it with Massdrop's moronic random shipping policies. I bought into the last Spyderco Para 2 drop and shipping to NZ cost $6.25. Now having waited weeks for this knife to turn up as a drop (and to support Massdrop with my purchase) they hand over shipping to the vendor, who wants to rip everyone off nearly three times the equivalent massdrop shipping price if they live overseas. (Shipping in the US is free!)
Why can't Massdrop ship all International orders Instead of leaving it with the vendor? Reasonable overseas shipping costs are all that make drops like this attractive. Knifecenter have this knife including the new serated versions for the same price (other than the -10 for a case thing), they charge $15 for shipping to NZ with awesome customer service. So for the sake of about +$6, I can have this knife next week and a whole load of "knife points" towards a future discount.
Spyderco drops are a complete waste of time if they are going to be shipped at rip off vendor rates.

AotearoanOrders that are shipped by the vendor typically cut 5-10 days off delivery time. The rates are based on the labels that we provide to them. We're very well aware that international shipping rates are higher than desired; our team is working to make them better, but changing shipping methods is a massive project for a company of our size. Your comments have been passed along to those responsible, thanks for taking the time to let us know how you feel and sorry this drop doesn't add up for you.

JonasHeinemanMassdrop already has reasonable international shipping rates; it cost $6.25 to ship a Paramilitary 2 to NZ. My point is, why do you randomely switch to shipping some items, like this particular Spyderco knife through the vendors if it is going to cost so much more - $17.83 in this case.
Nobody cares about knocking a few days off shipping time if it costs 3 times as much to ship. I thought Massdrop was a site where you obtained a good deal through collective buying and the accepted trade off was waiting a while for the goods to arrive.

AotearoanNobody? I beg to differ. My most recent purchase for a we knife 702 on release day was $64AUD for shipping int priority which estimates a 3-7 day savings and was 3 times the standard first class international rate. With things like knives I always go for whichever option has the highest tracking info etc. It's too big a risk to have it go missing.

AotearoanI'm in NZ too and much prefer to buy a knife from knifecenter, the few dollars saving through MD are not worth it to me. More wary about buying from eBay, there are only very few reliable sellers there, the only one I am dealing with there is whitemoutainknives.
