Given the changes to the base model PM2, can you still fit aftermarket scales? I'd be interested in something like these : https://amzn.to/2yIGrHc
From what I’ve read S30V and s35 are difficult to distinguish from a user perspective and easier to machine from a blade maker perspective. If true I would have expected a price drop.

As someone who has had several copies of the S30V PM2 and my current S35VN PM2 for over 3 years now... - as well as many other knives in S30V and S35VN. I can confidently say that S35VN it quite noticeable at how much longer it stays sharp vs S30V. Sharpening is not HUGELY different, given the performance difference. I will take S35VN over S30V every time.
Great knife, and the drop that got me mixed up with Massdrop a couple years ago! It was about $20 cheaper at the time, and not available at most of the major online retailers. I can't speak to the value of the current drop, but the knife itself is an EDC winner. I prefer to think of it as more of a chocolate, rather than dookie, brown!
If you are in CA, then it's probably better to buy the PM2 S110V version for $165 because after tax, this is $167.
massdrop01
I have the S110V version with the blue scales. I love it, I don't think I'll ever need another PM2
Mmmmmm Poop Brown. My Fave!
I have this very knife. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! One of my top 5 carries in my rotation. Although, I am not sure about this price. I got mine for a bit less than this. I would think we would make out better with pricing with this group buy vs. buying as an individual. If I didn't already have the knife and wanted it now I'd more than likely go elsewhere.

International shipping rates. That's all I can think of

Right, I don't understand how this is a deal? It's the exact same price on Knifecenter and both are slated to ship late June or early July. What's the point of this drop if it's not cheaper?
I'm thinking of having one shipped to the French office of the place I work at. Problem is, I'm not sure I myself will be in France when it gets there :-)
Did anyone try ordering one of these from France (or anywhere else in Europe)? Are there additional taxes/regulations I should be aware of? (do I need to declare it or sign a paper, etc..)
confield
Oh man... quite sending me knife deals... I end up buying a lot of them. Already have this in camp/black. One of my favorite all time knives. I have over 40 knives. A good majority of them on th higher end, some are just safe queens and I'm OK with that:-) Might have to grab one of these in black/silver combo. My everyday is the Sage, OMG... perfect EDC IMHO. Funny thing, until I bought a Spyderco I hated the look of them, could never get over the ugly blade and hole. A review convinced my on the Sage..... not I have a dozen Spyderco's:-)

Oh your comment was also that long ago?
Doh!
Omniseed
i don’t remember making that comment at all. Who knows. I share a computer with someone else and they participate on massdrop quite a bit as well. Could have sill been logged in on me without knowing it
Massdrop is total bullshit, prices are same with current price tags as always, Doesn't matter on watches or knives, here are price of current production lines of para military models;

How are they going to do a 'higher grind' on the full flat ground PM2?
Omniseed
I'm not really sure what it means. I went and found the comment again, and one before it referencing people inquiring about the grind, both by Jonas ( the guy in charge of bringing us these drops from what I can tell). Perhaps they're talking about changing how far up the edge comes? (As of today 06/14/2018 the comments are about 48 weeks back, just scroll back and do a 'Find in Page' for 'grind').
Got mine. How do you tell if it is a counterfeit?
MassDog
The one I got wasn't. Handled one in cableas, handled another in the spyderco factory outlet. They're the same.
MassDog
A little late, but the easiest way to tell is the cutout in the scale for the lock. Genuine is curved, counterfeit has a sharp edge. It's hard to describe, search "fake pm2" on YouTube.
The counterfeits are very convincing, I have one.
I'd picked up a counterfeit black / black and was sufficiently impressed with it to want the real thing, even if it meant paying a little more from an authorized dealer, so the price seemed good to me. LOVE the compression lock: I'm not street fighting and more concerned with putting the blade away quickly and safely than speed of deployment. (Personally, I find my attention is on the knife when opening, but my focus is drawn back to the task while closing it).
Is there anything better than getting a beautiful new tool? Really looking forward to it...

A friend of mine had the fake version, compared it to my original. They looked close, but glad to hear you got the real deal!
Camo Version is sold out....😔
Boycott this drop
jhnhurter
Why?
Great knife and this drop is actually a decent deal, once you factor in the refund for the complementary case.
There is currently no extra ($10) charge for black blades. Hurry. 😃
Most online stores sell this for $125 and usually free shipping. I bought this with a $10 off coupon 2 mths ago with free shipping for $115.00 to my door in a few days. Even better deals might be found with all the BF deals. Very highly recommended no matter where you buy it. An amazing knife by the way. Not to big, not to small. Awesome steel. For me it feels just right.
mattlwyatt
It's $110 here.
Losers! Not a deal. You can find it cheaper at......Oops never mind. Should have read the price description regarding the -$15 if you opt out the case😝 Just having fun gents.
I do have a suggestion for the MD staff. Maybe offer the price w/o the case, then offer the +$15 with case in the smaller print. The price has a bigger font which draws the eyes, some folks won’t read past that or miss the smaller print in the description, for various good reasons eg busy, etc.
Though I get the Marketing strategy to offer a higher price, but maybe you gain more buyers by reversing the strategy.
Just saying. I love this site. 👍

In rereading my suggestion, would moving the price description and changing the font size of the options with and without the case with the subsequent price drop still be in compliance with Spyderco ‘s MAP pricing?
LazarusLong
I'm sure minimum advertised pricing does mean something, but I'm no lawyer. "Advertized" can mean anything. Welcome to legalese...
Recently decided to take this little baby out for some carrying around.
Found a few points that I am concerned about (interns of authenticity):
1. Labelling on the bottom of box in the barcode seems to indicate it's a fake (yes online has debunked this saying it is not a definite way to tell)
2. Angle grind on the spydie hole (again yes this is not a definite tell)
3. Curvature at the end of the finger guard (a bit too pointy, but matches the pictures of what Massdrop posted)
Anyone feels the same or can someone at Massdrop come out and clarify?
Yi_Xiong
MD gets these straight from Spyderco so no worries!
Looking to buy one of these; please contact me if you decide to sell yours.
I participated in this recent drop. I opted for the satin blade, black handle, and -$15 pouchless. $119 to my door, Fedex, packed nicely in bubble wrap / manila folder.
Knife was mint (not anymore, heh) and an authentic Spyderco, with box and brochure. Blade marking indicates that it was made in Golden, CO USA, and helpfully specified the planet of manufacture.
This came configured for a right-hand, tip-down carry. 2 groups of holes have been drilled for a pocket clip on each scale, so this knife is ambidextrous and can be carried tip up or down.
The knife I received is a perfect specimen, with a fit & finish that I think is just great. Nice "dry-feeling" grip on the G10 handles, all the hardware is flush, new screws, blade is perfectly centered with a lovely sharp & even factory edge. The steel liners inside are skeletonized and polished. Lockup is very firm and tight, though I'm not so sure about closing this with one hand - if I could make one wild improvement it would be to add an AXIS lock.
I loosened the pivot just a skosh and gave it a drop of Militec, The detent is stiff and needs a little breaking in.
I'm very happy with this - Thanks to Spyderco and Massdrop et al.
Okay everyone, here's an update re: grind line:
We've heard back from Spyderco, who has let us know that a change has been made to the new, higher grind to create more consistency in the manufacturing process. We believe that all new Para Military models released will begin to have this higher grind line.
Although this was a universal model change and not a defect, we did show an older version - so we'll be messaging everyone who joined the drop with your options for either keeping or returning the knife.
Thanks for your patience while we waited for a definitive answer from the factory.
It is a sad day when your country is suspicious of you buying a knife...

Would be great if you could offer the left-handed version as an option. Best of all would be a Spyderco x Massdrop left-handed Para 2 with black blade. Hey, a guy can dream!

??? Didn't I specifically state that the lock was the part that was different and thus left handed?
PeacefulKancer
You did, I was just trying to add a little more detail. Don't know if you're a lefty or not, but so many knives are right-biased (don't get me started on liner locks!) that I get pretty excited when a company goes to the trouble and expense of making a run specifically for lefties.
I suggest getting the spyderco delica 4. It's well priced and the kind of knife that ends being an every day carry due to its versatility and size.
I've been seeing spyderco blades on massdrop for a while, all as seemingly high prices, what is it that sets these knives apart, is spyderco just a big name in the knife world, or do they make really good products?

I would say look at the manix 2 s110v. The ergos on that knife are amazing
Good man. Knives are a lot quieter and Less judgmental than chicks.
FYI - Some notes to hopefully clear up any confusion for this drop...
1) This page hosts drops form multiple variations of Spyderco's Para Military 2 model. The most recent ones have been for the Dark Earth / S35VN sprint run, but the drop launching June 24th is for the standard production S30V models. We'll have an update (about questions regarding the grind line) for everyone, hopefully on Monday.
2) Comments about pricing are welcome, but we do encourage members to first read the Note in the description and click Join to see the final price at checkout first. (Spoiler alert: you get either $15 off or a complimentary carrying case - your choice - for the same price that every other dealer sells it.) You may also want to read Spyderco's forum post and the following discussion about MAP as well. https://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?t=69166
Okay, I think that covers it but of course let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks for reading!

Anyone over here in Europe would buy it as Massdrop is the only supplier who can offer this price ANS ships to here.
badfrog
Makes perfect sense frogman. Gotta do what ya gotta do. Stay sharp
I own this particular model and it's awesome! Good price.
FWIW, I'm actually surprised at how many variances in grind, etc., I see on my knives. Even identical ones.
Little things, like the contour shape of the edge not really conforming to how it looks in marketing pics (ie, the curve of the blade drastically flattening out as it swoops up to the tip, vs being a smooth, well proportioned curved belly. This on several not inexpensive ZT knives I own. And the edge contours differing slightly in each of the two S30V Paras I have, vs that on the Elmax sprint run Para, and the S110V Para I have, among dozens of other knives).
It's frustrating because little imperfections like this drive me nuts, probably more than most folks.
But it's understandable, as each blade is individually ground by a technician. So I generally see some variances among various samples of my knives, even among the same knife model. Because they are individually sharpened and don't come out of a mold.
Even on knives from Spyderco's Taiwan factory, which has the highest Spyderco quality, some of my blades have very slight recurves in them where they should be flat. Or just slightly too much material taken off, which still makes for a functional knife, but not as aesthetically correct. This on a handful of Spyderco knives. Little things like that. And I find this across all manufacturers of knives I own.
Now, I don't know about anyone's knife being counterfeit. I can't speak to that.
The one I received, however, seems just about perfect. The materials and workmanship seem on par with or better than my other Spyderco knives (a few dozen various models). The action is smooth. No hitches at all in the lockup. I'm actually super happy with it.
I'm confident things will get figured out one way or the other, whether there are any counterfeits or not. I'm pretty sure the one I got is the real deal, however.
