Spyderco is out of their minds. This is discontinued, but they are still pricing it this high. I think the Chinese are winning.

Can't ping anyone from massdrop, but this is discontinued as of now, clearance on large online retailers and cheaper there.

What would make this knife worth more than the Benchmade Osborne 940-2? Seems like the Benchmade with its Axis lock is a much better knife and at $170.00 it is a lot cheaper too. Is CTS-204 steel that much better than S30V?

garage_logicianI have both, yes cts204p is a reasonable step up in terms of edge holding from s30, its basically the chemical twin of m390 and very similar to 20cv.
For me the southard is more comfortable in hand than the 940 though the benchmade carries more nicely, especially with the standard clip on the spyderco (I've swapped mine out for a deep carry job)
The southard is being discontinued by spyderco this year so their may be some discounts available, though no doubt price gouging will commence when stocks dry up

The Southard is one of the Spyderco's 2017 discontinued models. You can find these knives at the major online knife retailers (bladehq knifecenter eetc.) for $214.99 for the brown and 224.99 for the black version
The Southard is a cool Spyderco knife, great fit and finish, and a pretty smooth action. I do think you will find better value in ZT or Kizer flipper

given all of the ongoing drop out there i.e. Kizer with similar material and better fit & finish for 1/2 the price, this one isn't really as enticing. TBH Spyderco should consider reviewing their pricing policy for their TW/JP made models as some of them are way more expensive than their Golden Colorado made model. I personally prefer the Golden made models and i feel like the quality is as high, if not better, especially their Sebenza style pivot bushing. For about $150 i can get an S110V Paramilitary 2 which IMO is better than the Southard in every aspect.

A agree about the ZT 0920, but that's not just a few $ differenc. This drop @ $124 is half the price of the ZT. That's what made my mind up. The best hands on customer service is Reat. they are just getting to expensive

Sorry, I don't follow.
I know the Taichung knives are well made as I mentioned earlier. I also know there are other well made Chinese brands Like WE and Reate.
I just don't think the Southard is a good VALUE.
