This is almost as much as the Rike Knife Thor 4 (that was $199) was on MD a while ago, and that had an integral titanium handle and a Bohler M390 blade. Not to mention Massdrop dropped a Cold Steel Recon 1 XL (a 5.5in/14cm blade) with CTS-XHP for $99, granted it was a G10 with a tri-ad lock but still I don't think a smaller blade and a titanium handle is worth 100 extra. This doesn't seem like great value.

Ares78And it is half the price of a Sebenza, which according to all the metallurgist on massdrop uses an even more inferior s35vn!!! Lol Knife collecting has always been more than just the sum of the parts used & for those that go on about steel, pricing between m390 & this is not that huge, neither is the difference in real world application. Spyderco also pay designers royalties, rike ain't paying that either. Comparing cold steel's build quality to any of these is a joke, & I love cold steel. And by build quality I'm not talking about lock strength, I mean consistency of machining. They couldn't do a frame lock with such loose manufacturing standards.
GoodTimesThe price difference between American made Spydercos and Chinese Rikes is really from material and manufacturing. Raw material and manufacturing is really cheap in China when compared to America. Rike also hire newer designers so they wouldn't have to pay them as much (if they hired someone like Chris Reeves then you can be sure Chris is going to ask from massive royalties). I think if you can get a knife made with objectively superior materials for the same money why not? Don't know much about sebenzas though, Chris seems like a good guy but I've never handled one. I mean I guess if you want a tiny Slysz Bowie go for it but why not go for the Bowie since you're not getting a really great deal here.

Ares78Please don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of kizer, We knives etc, they are doing some great work for great value. My point is more about judging what your paying for just in terms of the raw materials. There are finishes, machining, contouring, hand fitting, a whole host of other factors that go into the pricing knives...... if everybody only judged value based solely on raw materials, custom makers for example would cease to exist. Another example of price difference is the Slysz Bowie vs Spydie Chef, Spydie Chef is way cheaper, uses a more expensive steel but the cost difference is due to the Bowie being 3d contoured & having more 'finishing' work done to it. Trust me when I say, you need to get some of these in hand & compare directly to judge value, judging knives based on a spec sheet is not always the best indicator of value. Also, warranty & ability to get customer support etc can be a factor too.
