confirmed that this steel change has been noted since jan 2015 on spyderco forums. it looks like it actually was a mistake and will not be produced after this fall 2015. I guess that makes it a rarer version. Most people seem to think carpenter steel is preferred to s30V, but the perfomance of the two is just about equal and CTS steel is now being widely used on all coldsteel knives including the cheaper voyager line--so I don't think the exclusiveness of the steel will remain for very long.
