Unless you are a customer outside the US who cannot order this knife through other means other than Massdrop, the price for this knife is not a deal for US buyers. I verified $175, free shipping, on both Walmart and Amazon. As for the knife, there is definitely big “cool factor” with this knife. The Taiwan label is not an issue, i.e., there is great stuff coming from that plant. While I’ve not handled this knife, I would guess, based on the manufacturer and comments across the boards that the fit and finish are superb. That said, given the blade material, S30V, appears to be ‘under-selected’ for a knife in this price range, even if you get it from W or A. But, at the same time, I would guess only a very small fraction of these knives would ever be faced with even the lightest cutting tasks, short of slitting an envelope or cutting a loose thread. Thanks to enhanced manufacturing techniques, cheap labor abroad, and cut-throat (pun intended) competition, there is a world of knives well south of $100, with at least S35VN blades, available to choose from that will rip apart almost anything at will. But, then again..., there is that ‘cool factor’ with this one 😎

AJAugustTaichung makes knives at least on par with Golden.  i'd rather pay a little more for a spyderco than buy one of those other knives (chinese) you mention personally.  that said if I were to buy this knife I would seek out a lower price elsewhere

eraderI appreciate what you are saying... When I mentioned ‘other knives’, among the ones that came to mind was the Cold Steel “Code4”. A great example with an incredible value well south of $100. A cool knife, but a different kind of ‘cool’, and it performs really well. I do not know where in Taiwan the Code4 is made.
