This is a pretty great knife. It's a bit on the big side, so you know. It feels thick and burly in the hand. Maybe more than one might expect.
Quite a solid, high quality knife. One of my favorite Spydercos. The fit and finish is generally fantastic. Really top notch.
If there's one quibble I have with the knife, however, it's with where the grind on the blade starts. At the area near the pivot, right around where the writing is.
On mine, there is too much material removed from the blade where the grind starts. So instead of the blade edge following a straight line from the blank all the way down the cutting edge, it skips up abruptly at the grind and then follows a shallow angle down the edge going towards the tip.
Functionally, it does not affect anything. But aesthetically, it's off. That line was intended to be straight. Instead there's an abrupt jog there, and it feels like too much material was removed when it shouldn't have been. It feels like a flaw, honestly.
I've seen this in a lot of knives, not just this one, and I know it's within the definition of "normal tolerances." Still, it bugs me when I see it in a knife I own. In some cases it ruins my enjoyment of owning the knife, occasionally throwing the visual aesthetics off that much. I'm sensitive to the fit and finish of my knives in that way.
Otherwise, the Vallotton is a very cool design, and the general quality of the build here is great. Recommended.
