Yes, you're right. The Stainless Ikon Razors are supposedly made in Thailand, who knows where the Shavecraft Alloy razors are made. For an all around whiz kid Mr Kahn sure hasn't done things by the book. I do know the OSS and the OC standard are precision tools (thankfully) The design of the head holds the blade precisely where it should be and both razors are a very smooth shave. Origin wasn't always mentioned as a matter of fact packaging says nothing. Customer service is pretty much terse dismissal of any and all issues. There is plenty of reading material at B&B
It's just my opinion but if you can get a razor that gives an aggressive but smooth shave, then it's a keeper. Some don't like to hear it but Muhle, Edwin jagger and Merkur heads are made of a zinc alloy. The engineering and the resulting shave from all three razors is usually the gold standard. The other higher priced razors that rely on CNC machining will cost more regardless of where they are made. Material cost isn't a biggie it's the labor and the level of craftsmanship.
The Wolf is made in a small Alberta town outside of Edmonton and the owner (rightly so) wants to keep his reputation clean by doing all of the critical work himself. (I had read that he is finally thinking of taking on another machinist) The razors aren't cheap but they are a work of art. This man is a very highly skilled machinist and his work is in great demand so the razors are worth the premium. There are others that are apparently made in North America, some are designed here and made under careful scrutiny elsewhere. Some look to be just fine and we find that corners were cut, life is full of surprises, some good and some bad.
If I was starting out I might buy a standard. A few beers and a night out cost far more and the razor sure won't give you a hangover. There are people who like it.
