I have had the Steel Series 9h's for about 3 years now, and I love them. I use them daily for long periods of time for gaming, movies, and listening to music. I bring them with me almost everywhere and they are extremely durable. I have dropped them multiple times and they still work perfectly. I have seen people complain about poor sound quality, but honestly, I don't notice it at all. The microphone sounds fine and the microphone being able to be freely positioned and holds its place is really useful. One thing I was concerned about myself before purchasing was if they would hurt my ears after wearing them for hours on end. I am extremely pleased to say that the foam cups stand off the inside of the headphone cup far enough away from my ear to where it barely touches. The cups are soft leather and the speaker cover is a plush, soft fabric. The headphones use a micro USB cable instead of the normal 3.5mm jack. It comes with 2 cables that attach to the headphone, a normal length one and an extremely long one. The micro USB cables can plug into multiple adapters that they include in the box such as: 3.5mm jack, split 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks, and the USB sound card that they give you. The sound card is nothing special and I don't use it hardly at all, and it was the only thing that broke on these headphones.
In conclusion, if you are looking for a comfortable, durable, functional, good looking pair of headphones, these are for you.
Don't fall for these! I'm not at all surprised how the price rapidly dropped on the 9H since they came out. 9H are weak and can't handle Bass!
I was a major SteelSeries fan until the 7H, which sounded much better than the 9H, but within months one side of the can always went out! and that stupid micro USB connection wire also suck!
I woke up from all that "7.1" gaming headset gimmick. You're better off getting some real good quality sound Headphones and a ModMic! If you still want that so called "7.1" just download the software from either Corsair, SteelSeries or Razar.
Just get a REAL QUALITY headphone with a mod mic already! This "gamer" branded crap always sucks audio-quality wise. Get some nice open-backs if you want impressive soundstage for gaming, or if you need the isolation of closed-backs but still with great soundstage go for some AKG K553's that drop regularly on here.. Trust me in a few months when you actually learn something about audio you'll be kicking yourself for buying into this crappy "gamer" branding and paying 3 times as much for shit quality!
I have owned these for a while and then switched to the Hyper X Cloud.
This headset is that is very comfortable from start. It is light, but you'll notice pressure dents on your hair/head from the two center pads. Felt and looked weird for me. Wearing a hat solves this.
Ear pads were very comfortable, but overtime you're ears get very sweaty. One note about the ear pads, on the Hyper X Cloud, I'm still using the leather pads and don't find them as sweaty as the 9H's in the same amount of time, though comfort wise, the 9H was a bit better with the larger cups.
The headband I found I never had to re-adjust it. No OCD fit with counting how many notches to make it equal on both sides.
The sound is pretty good, albeit a bit much sparkle at times, but that's a bonus to help hear really quiet sounds. The bass is there and doesn't feel forced. When it wants to boom it will at the extreme times, otherwise, it's blended in well. It isn't overwhelming is what I'm saying. Noise isolation is pretty damn good. I switched between the USB DAC and my X-Fi Forte, and found the Forte to sound better.
Mic is good according to friends. I do like that you could slide it away, but it's a PITA to take out and readjust as it keeps it curved form well.
The volume control is alright, but did notice some static much later on.
Overall, it's good headset for gaming and handles music and movies pretty good. Some of the bad points mentioned are what stirred me away; mostly the static. Hope this helps you in deciding.
This headset is a good purchase. Reviews suggest this is a step above normal gaming headset quality, but a bit expensive. Sound quality is reported to he slightly better than the Hyperx Cloud.
the M50X's are super overhyped, I bought them based on all these people basically worshipping them on here like a god sent gift of headphones and was greatly disappointed. There are so many BETTER options at that price point, not to mention the M50X's have absolutely NO SOUNDSTAGE whatsoever which is what you'd generally want for gaming. They're probably one of the worst suggestions for a headphone that you could go with purely for gaming, you really should go with open-backs for that or at least some AKG K553's which have amazing soundstage for a closed-back! It's sad to see all these fanboy products dominating every poll around here when there are so many better choices, I fell into that trap as well so I'd just like to share my 2 cents before other make a similar bad buy like I did... Lesson learned: do your own EXTENSIVE research from multiple review sites before buying! It's not a deal if you regret the buy and could've gotten something better for the same price!
