I've had a Stella for about 5 years now. i also have an Ott lamp. You can't beat Stella for it's quality of light. I can sew literally for hours without ANY eye strain. And because the power and type of light is adjustable I can use it in any situation. I purchased the edge as I want to use it on my cutting table. I know it's expensive but I believe you get what you pay for. For me, this is a good deal.

LongArmPattiThanks so much for your testimonial! No better praise than from a longtime and happy user. It is expensive but 50k hours of light is a prodigious amount. Think how my embroidery will have improved if I sew regularly through all that time.😊 But I do have a concern for Massdrop admin. Why is shipping so dear for the lamp? For the US, the cost is only cents away from 12%. Is there any relief to be offered, esp. given the large number of members interested? Between shipping and tax, this $115 splurge that will nevertheless be well used has morphed by more than 20% to be just dollars shy of $150! I decided to raise this issue even though $150 isn't a significant price tag compared to so many items listed in various communities. But these costs combined with a sometimes desperate paucity of new products and a commensurate repeat of the same old products is rapidly leaving me cooler and cooler. And that reality seems even more laughable now that an entire new range of communities begin. I say laughable since in theory this should be an unlikely time to turn my back now that Cooking and Men's Clothing among several are just up and running. Yet I, unfortunately, see some of the same practices that have driven me loopy picked up on these new communities, notably the incessant recycling of items with barely several weeks' interval while items I'd love to see repeated that have gained reasonable interest (though not the magic number of 200) & have been off the boards for a few to many months languish as "related links" only. So thanks for allowing me to vet my spleen. This is a community I've supported and for which I've advocated and would be unhappy to leave behind. But leave it behind I will if lax practices regarding product selection and rotation, a tone deafness or even silence toward continued pleas for greater range of options (notable example in Men's Apparel re: outlier sizes for shoes. While I understand that a specific line may only be available in sizes that cluster around the median, what about ferreting out new possible for the shoe outliers in the community as just one possibility), and significant unevenness in shipping costs across communities continue without any efforts by Massdrop admin to mitigate them. Thanks very much for reading a comment that should have ended paragraphs ago!

ShadowphdHi @Shadowphd, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We do read them and being a small company we try and act on them when it's possible. Shipping is one of those things that we constantly see people commenting on. For this particular item I can share the shipping is so high because it takes into account two things: weight and size of the box. When you have a large box you get hit with something called dimensional weights. So it's a double whammy for sure.
Regarding the comment on the lack of new products showing up in the community please know that we are trying to add new products. We've had more new items in the past couple of months then we've seen in awhile but not all of them have resonated with the community. We will continue to keep adding more items though. And if there is anything in particular you would like to see, let me know and I will try to get it on the site!
Thank you for your comments!

LongArmPattiI received my Stella lamp yesterday and used it last night. What a difference it makes! Wonderful light quality!! The price was great too. I saw it at a quilt store for $100 more. Thank you, Massdrop for a great deal!
