Actually, there's been tremendous demand. It's unfortunate that this offering did not appeal to the community -- the other drops for my custom tops all sold out very quickly (and have received hundreds of requests to be repeated). Gambling tops seemed like an interesting variety of custom top to try. I have sold several dozen custom teetotum in the past few months in various materials at the listed MSRP. Thanks for your interest.

FiddleFoundry"Massive demand" yet not 10 Massdrop users -- notorious for spending money on all sorts of useless gadgets like this -- are interested. Uh huh, we believe you.... ;-)

zoomorphNo need to be rude. If it's not your taste then don't buy it, simple. And regarding your other comment, yes indeed there is demand for a $1,000,000 handmade car (Pagani Huayra for example, not technically 100% handmade but it's as close as you get). There is always someone who can and is willing to spend more than others on a certain product, as I'm sure you know.

zoomorphI think $20-30 is a fair price point for a toy/novelty item like this. I mean it is handmade and these guys have to make money, but is there demand for a $100 spinny top?

nickm50Handmade isn't a good thing. Would you pay $1,000,000 for a handmade car or $10,000 for the same thing made by machines? Machines exist to make our lives more efficient so we don't have to manually weave and dye every fabric, cut every bit of metal, and so on. Machines tend to do a better job than human hands as they are more precise and consistent.
If these tops really require a $100 price tag to be cost-effective, the vendor is doing it wrong. They ought to invest in some automation and sell the things for $20. The market for people who will pay an extra $80 because the vendor is horribly inefficient by modern standards is very small.

Put and Take tops have been around since Greek and Roman times. I became aware of them through WWI and WWII memorabilia -- a popular form of gambling in the trenches. I've been surprised by how many people know about them or grew up with them -- I get orders for them all the time in various materials. Similar to dice, they have been made in everything from plastic to Damascus. Some were simple 1-piece construction and others have moving parts. I've tried to split the difference here and offer something handmade and accessible to most. Thanks for your interest!

It's a copy of a brass spinner called an Ante Up. My dad bought a bought 50 of them back in the 80's and gave them to friends and co-workers. Though the look well machined, I couldn't see paying that price...especially when my mom's kitchen junk drawer still has a dozen or so Ante Ups left!

Orguyyou know, if you click on someone's name you can see what drops they have backed.... i'm not sure how you can even make this comment when you backed the >$100 bolt action pen, and titanium sporks... everyone on this site spends money on unnecessary things, so why disparage this one?

JasrilWell put Jasril. The last part of your comment epitomizes Massdrop. If we're defining needs then I think that eliminates a lot of items available here. I'm guilty as charged as far as picking up relatively expensive toys. To each his own.
