DeaditeJust out of interest, can you expand on your statement - preferably with some factual evidence? Or is your statement based purely on your opinion/prejudice?
Anyone savvy enough to do some basic web searching on Sturmanskie can find out a lot of information on the brand and its reputation.

Mouse8459I would rather a vintage Sturmanskie for about $60-80 than this.

Mouse8459It has the same movement as majority of Vostok and Komandirskie watches, and those go for 50-60 USD . Here is the listing from one of the russian domestic retailers: http://www.alltime.ru/watch/sturmanskie/2416-2345337/16265/ Caliber is 2416 Here is the watch made by the same company from the same retailer: http://www.alltime.ru/watch/vostok-watch/921831/144577/ The same caliber: 2416Б And the price after conversion is around 52 USD. (with a little effort it's possible to find it even cheaper) Those are really low quality watches. Once it starts developing problems, watch repair shops in russia itself will not repair it, and will simply tell you to buy new one. If you're really persistent, they will take it for repair, and will simply replace the whole movement, leaving original case and dial. Price of 399 USD , or even 299 USD is simply "Tourist Trap". For 400 USD you can get Seiko Alpinist , or one of the new Cocktail line watches. For me it's a no brainer. But it's just me, what do I know, I only have like 6 years of experience working in russia .
P.S. You mentioned reputation of this brand. It has reputation ONLY in russia. And it's based mostly on russian military fan boys affection for "patriotic" art on the dials of those watches. If you ask one of the locals, why they like these watches. Majority of the replies will be something like this: My father/grandfather/uncle/brother of my 12th girlfriend had one, and it was really durable/tough/unbreakable, and they have such a cool patriotic dial. These watches are crap, it's just the way things are...

unixvovaThank you for taking the time to give a considered and well thought out reply. I'm sure that many readers will find it useful. And yes, I'd much rather have an Alpinist.
