And... Shipping notice received.

These have been at the fulfillment center for over a week without being shipped or an update. Massdrop claims a 48 hour turnaround time, so what's going on here? :(

Not getting replies from support about this drop or another of mine in progress, not sure what's going on here.

TsaroWish I knew. I had a different (delayed) drop shipped to me this week while the D40A was at the fulfillment center--they could have just dropped it in the box--*sigh*. Andy mentioned on another drop that the usual turnaround is 2 business days once it reaches the fulfillment center, but it seems to be running way longer than that for my drops.

The D40A's have been sitting at the fulfillment center for awhile now without getting shipped. Maybe someone can lend them a flashlight, so they can find the box?

Are you a flashlight enthusiast Barry? If you're not then this light may be the better choice for you because of the battery choices. The SRTs take CR123s and 18650s, I purchased the SRT7 because I have a few rechargeable 18650s; however if you don't already have some then you should plan to buy 1 or 2 (cost roughly $20 each) and a charger which can run about the same amount. So expect to pay about $50+ to get the SRT7 functioning if you don't already have a battery. This isn't necessarily bad because the light is absolutely excellent; however it's not as easily plug and played as this D40A.

@Barry Have you tried Eneloops? They are NiMH, but I have found them to be of much higher quality than most. The real trick to getting good performance out of these batteries is to get a proper charger. The go-to model is the LaCrosse Technology BC-1000. I use this for all my flashlights and lasers and have completely stopped using Alkalines.

PyroniousI've been using Eneloops in the house and they're ok, but they don't hold a charge like Li-ion and cannot be recharged as many cycles. I'll look into the LaCrosse charger. I think I'll go for the D40A for the compact size and better tail stand ability. Thanks.

I prefer neutral white because it allows the real colors of the object you're illuminating to show up. Cool white has a more blue tint to it, it discolors the object a tiny bit. Not a big deal but I prefer neutral white, I own lights of both so it's not a life changer but when the decision is given I choose neutral.

Spencer_BThanks, neutral white will be my choice if I go with the D49A. Trying to decide between this and the Nitecore SRT7 now.

BarryI went with natural as well because of the colors, but I think the trade off is slightly smaller range vs cool white version. Was also considering nitecore but went with d40 because of batteries and form factor

Any thoughts on cool white vs. neutral white? If the government shuts down, I expect the country to descend into savagery, and it would be handy to have a good flashlight for the interregnum.

This is fantastic torch powered with AA, best in it's class. Has nothing but stellar reviews, can't wait - gonna use it when sailing and keep it at home

This is pretty awesome. There aren't many models of flashlight of this power and quality that also take AA batteries. And you can guarantee that in the zombie apocalypse, double A's will be the last to run out. It also has moonlight mode (very low power), which is amazingly useful for actual practical purposes. I use moonlight mode on my 4sevens more than ask other modes combined.
