I got mine on the last drop. Writes nicely. Does anyone else have an issue with it drying out fast? If I don't is it over the weekend when I get back to work on Monday, it doesn't want to write. Using diamine Matador ink.

SteveF8528Even the one that I converted to an eye-dropper does not dry out on me, but mine see fairly heavy use at least every other day. Then again, I live in the soggy Pacific Northwest, so the high humidity here might have something to do with the ink not drying out. I've found that storing the Super5 fountain pen laying down is better. If I leave the Super5 pen vertically stored for more than a day or so, it can be kinda balky at starting again. Using J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune and Bleu Nuit.

sallensallen, what did you do with the end cap to seal it to convert to ED ? Curious to know how it's working for you ? @SteveF8528 - I haven't had any problems with the nibs drying... Fortunately, I was able to really check... I have been away and haven't used my pens for the last 2 weeks. 3 currently inked and all started right up. ( Noodler's Army Green, Noodler's Heart of Darkness and Diamine Blue Velvet ) The HOD ink is in one of the earlier Super5 pens sold through GPC a year or 2 ago - Something about the new design feels different to my hand, but I am not quite sure what ??
SteveF8528I have two 0.7mm stubs and two 0.5mm ones. I store them nib side up and haven't had any of them dry out on me except once, after a week of disuse. The inks I've used them with so far are R&K Royal Blue, Diamine Lavender, S&K Tomato Red, Diamine Poppy Red and Diamine Onyx Black. Have you made sure the cap snaps in place properly? I have four of these pens, not one of them caps like the other. My Arctic required too much force to close, until one day it did not. Turns out the cap had developed a hairline crack :(

TherocDo all of your caps spin easily? Mine does. Maybe it is not seating correctly into the end.
SteveF8528No they don't. Some spin more readily than others, but none of them easily. The top cap, the small one above the clip, unscrews quite easily. Try it, you will find a short plastic tube that simply falls out. This thing is responsible for the cap snapping on; it snaps on to the ridge right under the nib. Hold on I'll post a few photos.

TherocThat is helpful, thanks. Better not show my daughter the combinations or I'll have to get more and then never see them again. I'll check if that white section is fitting correctly. Will have to wait until Monday though. It's sitting in my desk at work.

SteveF8528SteveF8528 and @Theroc - You stirred my curiosity - I had not paid attention to whether the pen turns. I have 4 of the Super5 pens, purchased from 3 different places : Black from Goulet Pens - Which, overall, seems much sturdier than the new pens. The cap closes with a strong/audible "click". The cap is snug and does not spin at all. Green from Amazon - Cap "clicks, but it does turn with a little resistance. Not terribly bad. Yellow and Blue pens both from Massdrop - The caps do not "click" shut and both pens/caps turn very easily. When I got the pens from Massdrop, I had noticed that the caps do not close with a snug snap and "click" and that the caps don't seem to have a "stop" point. Without that little "click" and snap of most pens, it feels like I don't have the cap on properly. It seems as if it would be easy to push the cap on beyond where it ought to stop. I have to remember to be careful when I put the caps on, I worry I might push it too far and crack the cap. ( I wonder if that is how @SteveF8528 ended up with cracked cap ?? ) :( This morning, I took apart the 4 pens and had them side by side and just noticed a difference in the threads on the grip sections. The threads on the Black and Green pens (GPC, Amazon) are coated black. The threads on the Yellow and Blue pens ( both Massdrop ) are not coated, just the metal/stainless ??? The difference ?.... The black threads screw on more easily and quietly. The Yellow and Blue don't align quite as easily and squeak loudly when screwing on the section. ( a little silicone ought to take care of that) I thought I'd add a couple photos... Let me add that I really like the Super5 pens and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another - (there are still 2 nib sizes I haven't tried). Each of the 4 nib sizes I have are smooth. They are durable pens and well worth the drop price. I would recommend them for an every day pen for school or work... even for drawing or art work.

j-e-g@SteveF8528 @j-e-g I'm the one with the cracked cap j-e-g. And yes, that's how it cracked. If you look inside the cap, you see these 'ribs'. They provide friction to keep the cap in place. The snap-on effect comes courtesy of the white cylinder in the top end of the cap, but it does not provide much grip; it only serves to isolate the nib. The ribs inside the cap, however, clearly differ from pen to pen. The caps which do not rotate easily have thicker ribs. You can even see their rub marks on the grip section. I guess one could sand them down if it's too much of an issue.

TherocAhh - my mistake, I thought Steve had the cracked cap... I prefer the nice snap and click of the cap. I dunno, makes me think the cap is on securely. While it may make no difference in terms of the nib drying out, I feel like the snug fit (pen not turning when capped) that too, makes me feel the nib/ink is sealed from the room air. Then again, I have no had a problem with mine drying out. After 2 weeks of being away, they started right up.... so I'll be happy with that - Squeaky threads and all :)
