I bought this product back in 2015 and the unit has decided to stop working on the right output line (yes I've checked the cables, the satellites. it's the output line). I assumed that I didn't have warranty, so I took it apart and checked the board. The white wad is an isopropyl wipe and I cleaned the board. But the solder on the board looks like it has re-flown and left patches on exposed PCD traces. I don't think this is the cause of failure, but may have contributed. Looking at the component side, nothing of note sticks out. But following the traces of the underside, I would guess the failure was the far left transistor that is screwed into the heat sink. Before cleaning off the board, they was noticeable residue surrounding the under side of the PCB around the left transistor. I'm guessing this is either a reason for failure it a side effect of a failure in the transistor itself. Hoping to be wrong about the transistor failure, I went ahead and reapplied solder and re-flowed where necessary and patched up the exposed traces. This didn't fix the problem.

Honestly I'm still a bit unsure on why my speaker has died, or why I wrote this. Anyone looking to sell just a base?

I've owned this system for over 5 years and really loved it. I just recently added a DAC to this system and thought I'd pass along my impressions. Setup: Definitely a positive upgrade for the M10 system. (Obviously one's mileage will vary based on the DAC and connections.) I've found the harshness in treble notes taken out, and vocals in particular are more vibrant. I would say that both systems (the Grace SDAC and the M10) are fairly clean/neutral but adding the SDAC gave the sound additional warmth without taking away clarity or depth. I'm not a hard core audiophile so I wasn't sure if this -- or any -- DAC would make a difference but really happy with the improved sound. I went with the straight DAC (vs. a DAC/amplifier combo) because the M10 has its own amp. As a side note: I've found the M10 cranks a little louder now. Turning it up one quarter (about 9 o'clock on the volume knob) is all I need now for fairly filling but not distracting sound while at my desk; before it was closer to halfway (about 11-12 o'clock on the volume knob).

I plugged these in yesterday, and I just realized I too have the weird radio station interference on them. Really pathetic shielding. Trying to decide if I should buy new cables and ferrite filters like someone else suggested or just return them. By the time I fix these, they might not be a good deal anymore.

Colluphid42I'd say ferrite cores are worth a try for this system. I own it, and also had RFI problems that I almost entirely eliminated using ferrite cores. They're <$3 for a pair on Monoprice and tons of options on Amazon.

I bought these a while back and these systems were being manufactured with a known defect for a while. There can be a persistent hum from the speakers that doesn't go away. Dealing with HiVi to get it fixed is next to impossible because they have zero functional customer service in the states. The company I bought them from Audio Insider was the only dealer in the US at the time (3 years ago or so) and he "repaired" them by not doing anything and just sent them back. It took several times of sending them back and forth before he actually upgraded the internal components and fixed the hum. Super shady dealer (he's since changed his name to Chane Music Cinema but it's still him) and HiVi wasn't much better in dealing with them.
Today we're sending a $30 volume control free of charge to a Canadian Massdrop customer whose 2015 product is fifteen months out of warranty. We typically cover products not just for the warranty term but for as long as we're supported with parts. In some cases this is years beyond original warranty. As a consumer product the M10's in-field service record is also excellent, with only about one half of one percent of their many thousands of owners requesting service. Of those, about a third of all returns prove to be actually flawless (as just about any service manager for consumer products will report). After thorough re-testing, if a warranty station finds there's nothing that needs to be done and can be done, they are returned. Customers generally never find issue again.
If there is any doubt that they may present a problem in the field, however, warranty allows for complete replacement or electronics-only replacement at the station's discretion and within the warranty terms expressed at time of purchase.
We've been serving hundreds of Massdrop customers like this for years and now that we're able to pass on by far the lowest prices for these items in their history, the value is even higher. We love Massdrop customers.
JonLaneThank you for the response. I am not sure if I will pick these up this go around, but my hesitation is not due to the borderline creepy recurring comments by a certain individual.

I ordered a TEAC CR-H101 CD Receiver. I'm not a tech head but will these speakers work with an amp with a 4 ohm output class D amplifier? Thanks for any input.
